  4. What Makes an EffectiveEducator? • Enthusiasm, conviction, confidence • Clarity of personal ethics • Respect for differences • Genuine appreciation of people and their innate desires and abilities • Willingness to try new things • Flexibility

  5. An Effective Educator cont. • Patience to accept that change takes time • Acceptance of mistakes • Belief in the constant possibilities in life • Ability to relate to students with honesty, warmth, and sensitivity

  6. Effective educators also… • Speak loud enough and use clear, simple language • Are comfortable with short periods of silence • Can cope with any conflict when it first appears

  7. The 10 “Demandments” • Treat with respect & preserve dignity • Always do what is in the students’ best interest • Seek solutions • Model tolerant, patient, dignified, respectful behavior • Least intrusive intervention
