Materials needed: Flip chart or blackboard Charts 10 and 11, one copy each participant Chart 12, one copy for instructor Sixteen blank sheets of paper, or 5x7 cards for game (game transferred to PPT) Venturer Handbook, #33493 Ranger Guidebook, #3128 Sea Scout Manual, #33239B Venturing Leader Manual, #34655B Venturing Advisor Award of Merit Application, #25-013 Venturing Advisor Award of Merit Certificate, #33661 National Venturing Awards and Recognition Program, #25-884 Bronze, Gold, Silver, Ranger certificates #33666,5,4,3. [Pocket certificates 33645-49.] Start at 2:00, time is 60 minutes The purpose of this session is to describe the Venturing awards and recognitions and emphasize their unique features. In the first three sessions of this training, we talked about the aims and purposes of Venturing, the challenges facing Venturing-age youth, and the need to train our Venturers. Now we will discuss the need to recognize our young people for their achievements.     4. Venturing Advancement Please remember that a young man can work on his Eagle Scout award [and Venturing awards] at the same time. When requirements in these programs are the same, he can get credit for progress in all areas as long as the work is done while he is a registered Venturer. Sports Bronze Award (Do 9 of the following) Demonstrate first aid for injuries or illnesses that could occur while playing sports Write an essay that explains sportsmanship OR Make a presentation to your crew or a Cub Scout Take part as a member of an organized Organize and manage a sports competition Make a set of training rules for a sport you pick. Give a presentation that explains the attributes of a good team leader and a good team player.

    9. Sports Bronze Award Make a display or presentation on a selected sport Research and then make a presentation, on drug problems as they relate to athletes. Research and then, at a crew meeting or other youth group meeting, manage a discussion on recent training techniques Study ways of testing athletes for body density. Select a favorite Olympic athlete and make an oral presentation Explain the importance of proper sports etiquette.

    11. Quest Award Do the following five Requirements: Earn the Sports Bronze Award. Complete an American Red Cross Sports Safety Training Course or equivalent. Fitness for Life Learn and do fitness assessments. Sport Disciplines (Choose a sport from a list provided in the Quest Handbook or another sport approved by your advisor.)     14. Arts and Hobbies Bronze Award (Do 9 of the following) Visit a drafting company Create an advertising plan for a product Learn about backstage support for artistic productions. Attend a theater production. Then critique the work of the artist in set design, decoration, and costume design. Choose a new hobby such as CD, sports card, or stamp collecting; in-line skating; or marksmanship. Tour a golf course. Visit a hobby store.

    15. Arts and Hobbies Bronze Award Teach disadvantage or disabled people a sport and organize suitable competitions, or help them develop an appreciation for an art or hobby new to them. Organize a hobby meet Organize a photography contest in your crew, Using your artistic ability, volunteer to do the artwork for an activity for your crew, another crew, a Cub Scout or Boy Scout group, a district, or a council. Example: Do the posters and promotional materials for a district Cub Scout day camp.

    17. Religious Life Bronze Award (Do 9 of the following) Earn your denomination's Venturing-age religious award. (ON MY HONOR, ONE DUTY TO GOD CERTIFICATE) Learn about cultural diversity. Make a presentation or tabletop display using the information you learned in (a) above. OR Invite someone from a different cultural background from yours and the majority of your crew's members to give a presentation on a subject of his or her choosing. Introduce your guest. Participate in a discussion about cultural diversity with your crew, Sunday school class, or other group.

    18. Religious Life Bronze Award Plan and lead a service project such as participating in a community cleanup project. Serve as a volunteer in your church or synagogue or other nonprofit organization for at least three months. Go on a religious retreat or religious trek lasting at least two days. Produce or be a cast member in some type of entertainment production with a religious or ethical theme. Serve as president, leader, or officer of your Sunday school class or youth group. Complete a Standard First Aid course or higher course or its equivalent. Participate in at least two Ethical Controversies activities as a participant.
