On-Campus Interviewing An opportunity to meet face-to-face with employers who wish to hire Case students and discuss employment prospects A way to connect registered students with employers using eCompass, a web-based on-campus career management system that features on-line registration, resume postings, resume books, and interview sign-ups One method for exploring jobs in which the Career Center brings employers to campus to interview students for full-time and internship positions

Benefits of Using eCompass Participate in on-campus interviews with employers offering full-time, internship, and practicum opportunities Submit your resume in the Web Resume Books for all employers offering positions, not just OCI Receive targeted emails about special events, programs and opportunities Explore employment opportunities without having to travel off campus

  5. Those Eligible to Participate in OCI • Case undergraduate students • Graduate students completing requirements for a master's or Ph.D. • Recent Case alumni (one year after graduation date) • Open to all majors

Your Role in On-Campus Interviewing Arrive promptly Dress appropriately - Professional/Business Attire Prepare in advance by researching the company (not doing this is the biggest complaint from employers) Bring all materials that the company has requested • Completed application form • Transcript either official or a copy Print a clean copy of your resume on bond paper

  8. What to Wear Professional Dress for Men A tailored dark suit is preferable – navy, brown, black, or gray A light colored shirt and tie Dress socks that match the suit and shoes that are polished Neatly trimmed facial hair, if any

  9. What to Wear Professional Dress for Women A tailored suit or dress with a conservative length hemline – two inches above the knee or longer All accessories should be conservative – nail polish, make-up, jewelry Neutral pantyhose with polished, closed-toe shoes

  10. What NOT to Wear Unprofessional Dress Jeans, athletic apparel, hats Open-toed shoes Cologne or perfume

  11. Interview Preparation Research the company and industry they represent Do a mock interview with a Career Center counselor Attend a Career Center interviewing skills workshop Attend employer information sessions when offered

  12. Researching the Company Prior to the interview, you should familiarize yourself with the prospective employer’s products and services, organization size and structure, subsidiaries, recent financial performance, and other current news and events concerning the company. Resources include the organization’s website, Kelvin Smith Library, Vault Online Career Library, and the Dun and Bradstreet Million Dollar Directory (please note that the last two resources are available through the Career Center website).

  13. Professional Integrity in Interviewing Update and complete your eCompass profile with accurate information Use honesty in accepting and declining offers Once you have accepted an offer you should not continue to participate in on campus interviewing Serve as an ambassador for Case

After the Interview Complete a Career Center evaluation form and return it to the front desk Be sure to send a thank you note within 24 hours to the recruiter (You should obtain the name and contact information from the recruiter before you leave) Reflect on the interview, the company and your performance by journaling your thoughts immediately following the interview

  16. What to do when you arrive Check in with the front desk receptionist who will direct you to the interview suite Wait for the recruiter to call you in to the interview room Relax!

  17. In Case of an Emergency If you must cancel your interview, please do so at least 24 hours in advance Contact the Career Center at 368-4446 and the recruiter to notify us of the cancellation Explain the situation to the recruiter and ask that they grant you another interview opportunity

  18. Interview No-Shows and Cancellations The worst impression you can make is to not show up or call to cancel an interview. If you do not attend your interview or cancel with a phone call the following will occur:

No-Show Policy You will receive an email from the Career Center requiring you to send a letter/email of apology to the recruiter within two days and a copy to this office If you fail to do this you will be sent another email and your interviewing privileges will be temporarily suspended until you have met the requirements The issue needs to be resolved inside of one week of the missed interview and after that you will need to meet with a career counselor to be reactivated in the eCompass system Two no-shows will result in the loss of your on campus recruiting privileges, no exceptions will be made

  21. eCompass login Your Login: Username = email before the @ (aka Case net ID) cxk42 Password Birthdate: for example 9/21/84 Complete your profile (personal info, academics, future plans, and administration) Upload your resume

  22. How do you Participate in On-Campus Interviewing? Complete your eCompass profile Upload your resume. It is advisable to also publish your resume in appropriate resume books Apply for positions by the deadline dates using eCompass

  23. Tips for Searching on eCompass • Select the “Internship” or “Job” tab • Keep searches broad (choose 1 or 2 criteria) • Search regularly (we add new positions daily) • Use the one click searches

Applying for On-Campus Interviews eCompass keeps a record of your applications, employers make their decisions, and the system lets you know Definitions of Employer Decisions: Accepted - The employer has accepted you for an interview Alternate - The employer has accepted you as an alternate Undecided -The employer has yet to make a decision Declined - The employer has declined your application
