  2. Some Hamster Facts Since we will be beginning our Hamster unit in about a week, here are some facts to better prepare yourselves for new class pet: Hamsters are apart of the rodent family, along with mice, rats, and squirrels. They are nocturnal animals and may bite you if you handle them the wrong way during the day. They may be a little grumpy.

  3. The hamster will be kept in a cage in the classroom. We actually haven’t decided on which cage yet for the hamster, maybe you can help us out. Which one did you like?

  4. Feeding the Hamster We will be feeding the hamster a balanced diet that contains the following: Sunflower seeds, nuts, dark green lettuce, vegetables, fruits, raisins, rolled oats, cottage cheese and yogurt. Everything a growing hamster needs to get big and strong. And, we won’t forget to give them fresh water everyday.

  5. Hamster Exercise Just like us, hamsters need exercise too. We will be putting a wheel in the cage, as well as buying a plastic ball so that we can watch it run around the room. Be sure to watch the hamster when it is in the plastic ball, so that it doesn’t wander too far!
