  1. National Career Pathways Network2009 Annual Conference College Tech Prep Consortium Showcase Lifelong Learning

  2. Akron Area College Tech Prep Consortium • Akron Area College Tech Prep will be starting two dual enrollment programs this fall with Barberton High School and Wayne County Schools Career Center.

  3. Akron Area College Tech Prep Consortium • At Wayne County Schools Career Center, Lynette Boggs will be the instructor for the Engineering and Science Tech Program. Her students have the option of earning up to 30 college credit hours towards an Associate degree in Engineering and Science Technology.

  4. Akron Area College Tech Prep Consortium • At Barberton High School, Rich Mehok will be the instructor for the CISCO/A+ program. His students have the option of earning up to 20 credit hours towards an Associate Degree in Computer Maintenance and Technology.

  5. Clark State Tech PrepConsortium • Two new Project Lead the Way programs were started in 2008-09 at Northeastern HS and Shawnee HS in Clark County. PLTW is now offered at 4 Clark County high schools. Total enrollment at local high schools is nearly 300 students. • Project Lead the Way students now have the opportunity to earn college credits in Engineering Technologies at Clark State Community College. • Gateway to Technology is part of the curriculum for 400 eighth graders in Springfield City School Middle Schools.

Clark State Tech Prep Consortium • Through our Tech Prep articulation agreements, in 2008-09, over 450 high school Tech Prep students earned over 900 college credits--saving almost $71,000 in tuition for these students. • Twenty five students received up to $2,400 in George Mueller Tech Prep Scholarships in for the 2009-10 school year.

  7. Greater Cincinnati Tech Prep Consortium • Hosted the National Career Pathways Network and the National Association of Tech Prep Leadership Forum in Cincinnati in October 2008.  Organized Statewide Tech Prep Showcase which highlighted over 300 Tech Prep Students from across Ohio.  • Developed, trained and coordinated Leadership Academy high school seniors to serve as Ambassadors for NCPN and area recruiting for Tech Prep. •  Earned Exemplary Service Award and appreciation from NCPN for raising over $20,000 in sponsorships from Tech Prep partners for this conference.

  8. Greater Cincinnati Tech Prep Consortium • Increased ninety per cent (90%)Tech Prep programming in Cincinnati Public Schools with addition of new Hughes STEM High School, Zoo Academy, and Riverview East Environmental Science Academy. •  Initiated CT2 Workshop for all partners to achieve compliance with legislation (HB66) and input curriculum into CTAG system especially focusing upon engineering technology programs.

Greater Cincinnati Tech Prep Consortium • Oversaw promoting/recruiting for STEM Summer Academy (OBR funded) for Cincinnati State and ran grant during the summer that saw 44 high school students earn 388 college credits in six week academy program.  99% attendance during program set outstanding benchmark of participation. • Conducted ODE sponsored IT articulation workshop and field tested new software (OCAST) for state to develop 29 articulation agreements among IT partners. • Conducted National Tour during NCPN that showcased CPS Woodward Career Technical High School, Cincinnati State, and UC College of Applied Science pathway in Construction Management.

Greater Cincinnati Tech Prep Consortium • Created, organized and commissioned “A+ Team” to plan and implement College Readiness Pilot program in which COMPASS tests were delivered electronically to schools.  Juniors worked on Advancer software to reduce need for remediation and to become eligible for STEM academy. • Developed 17 new Health Technologies articulation agreements among six secondary schools and three college partners. Conducted test out/proficiency tests for allied health seniors in medical terminology certification.

  11. Greater Cincinnati Tech Prep Consortium • Hosted the National 2008 Business Conclave at the Netherland Hilton • Presented bioscience curriculum model at BioOhio Bioscience Education Summit where Tech Prep was recognized as the “Best Practice” in Ohio for bioscience education.

Heart of Ohio Tech PrepConsortium Inquiry-Based Learning: • The Heart of Ohio submitted the highest number of IBL Lesson Plan units to the state and will continue to support IBL mentor opportunities throughout the consortium. Summer Teacher Workshop: • The Heart of Ohio conducted a 5-day summer workshop which was attended by over 85 teachers with 27 teachers taking advantage of Ohio University graduate credit

  15. Heart of Ohio Tech PrepConsortium Math Refresher: • The Heart of Ohio is funding a project aimed at students obtaining a passing score on the math portion of the COMPASS Test. The desired goal of this project is to provide an opportunity for students who have not been successful in passing the test, to “refresh” their math skills and pass the test. Assessment Committee: • The Heart of Ohio has formed an assessment committee to study issues regarding assessment and to make recommendations regarding academic assessment for Tech Prep students.

  16. Lakeland College Tech Prep Consortium FY 2008 Highlights • Increased secondary enrollments from 767 to 838, college enrollments from 238 to 265. • Recruited 5 new business partners to the consortium. • Collaborated with Lakeland IT department to sponsor and execute We at IT program for middle school girls • Administered second year of Alumni Grant and hosted Alumni dinner for students and graduates.

  17. Lakeland College Tech Prep Consortium FY 2009 Highlights • Increased secondary enrollments from 838 to 865, college enrollments from 265 to 289. • Executed Lake Shore Compact STEM camp. Executed two STEM camps for students in GEAR UP Lighthouse site. Worked with stakeholders and executed Tech prep Career Day for 300 middle school students.

Lorain County Tech Prep Consortium • Introduction of 6 new programs; increase in total consortium enrollment from 673 (Class of 08) to 765 (Class of 09) •  Developed and launched first CTP program (Health Science Technology program) within an Ohio “Early College High School”. • “TechnoFridays!” series for 8th graders • Achieved opportunity for every CTP program within Consortium to offer at least one (if not more) course for articulated college credit.

  19. Lorain County Tech Prep Consortium • Established Consortium office as central point for all LCCC articulation (including adult programs, non-CTP, and out-of-county); developed standardized system for information on each available course; developed online system to provide institution’s complete articulation course roster and all related information documents (to go live November, 2009).

Lorain County Tech Prep Consortium • Recognition of the “Career Counselors Team” as a sub-group of the Lorain County P-16 Council (“ReacHigher”); completion of the conceptual model for career education that can be used by any school/district at little to no cost; identification of 2 pilot sites for implementation; first site launching October, 2009; standardization on OCIS as resource/management tool for process.

Marion Area Partners Tech Prep Consortium 33% Market Share • Expansion of program pathways in Argibusiness, Engineering, Health, Information Technology, Manufacturing Acceptance of College Ready Challenge • Testing every Career Center student (10th, 11th, and 12th grader) for college readiness using the ACT COMPASS assessment

Marion Area Partners Tech Prep Consortium Cradle to Grave Engineering Pathway • Beginning with elementary school career awareness programs and 4-H after-school Robotics clubs. • Followed by middle school Gateway to Technology programs for all students. • In the 9th grade, students enroll in Project Lead the Way Engineering programs at their home high schools.

Marion Area Partners Tech Prep Consortium Cradle to Grave Engineering Pathway cont. • After subsequent 10th and 11th grade courses, the students attend Career Center capstone classes on Marion Technical College campus. • While in high school, students earn college credit from this nationally recognized Engineering program supported locally by Honda of America, Whirlpool, Inc. and other regional manufacturers. • Each year, students from elementary to college levels (from seven states) demonstrate their technical competencies by competing in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) sanction National Robotics Challenge held in Marion

Mid-East Ohio Tech Prep Consortium • The second class of dually enrolled Engineering Technology students have graduated from Zane State College, with an Associate of Technical Studies; from Mid-East Career and Technology Centers, with their career-technical certificate; and from their respective associate schools, with their high school diplomas.

  28. North Coast Tech Prep Consortium 2009 Biotech Olympics • More than 150 Biotech students from Bedford, Cloverleaf, Lakewood, Normandy, Parma Senior, and Valley Forge High Schools competed in the 2009 North Coast Tech Prep Biotech Olympics

  32. Ohio South Tech Prep Consortium Parents & Community • Held four informational meetings in evenings and on Saturday for parents and students. • Hosted a day during school for parents to meet with university and high school administration to reveal program partnership and allow Q & A.

Ohio South Tech Prep Consortium Students • Polled to get career and course interest • Met with each class to explain program and schedule details • Held evening and weekend meetings for students and parents • Took students to university for COMPASS Testing and introduction to TP programs • Pre-Registration for students detailed all options for dual credit and Tech Prep. • Qualified as many students as possible for Post Secondary Options so that all costs would be covered for those students.

  35. Ohio Valley Tech Prep Consortium Ohio Valley Tech Prep students: 1. Demonstrated interactive media knowledge and skills in the exhibition hall during the NCPN Conference in Cincinnati. 2. Worked on a Second Life project to demonstrate "How an Electrical Power Plant Works" for American Electric Power. 3. Earned college credit for information technology courses via dual credit enrollment and proficiency examinations. 4. Earned college credit for technical and academic courses via CLEP examinations. 5. Earned business and industry credentials via certification examinations in automotive, health and information technology. 6. Worked on Rio Cyber Club projects in collaboration with Shawnee State University's WIRED Grant.

  43. Upper Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium Honoring College Tech Prep Excellence Since 2008, the Consortium has awarded 48 cords to Tech Prep graduates

  44. Upper Miami Valley Tech Prep • As a member of the National Tech Prep Registry, the Upper Miami Tech Prep Consortium Steering Team utilizes the national criteria for selecting students to be recognized at their high school commencement. The Consortium purchases College Tech Prep purple and green braided cords to be worn during the students’ high school commencement.  The award criteria included: • Enrolled in an approved Tech Prep program. • Attained a 3.50 cumulative or above grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale). • Completion of a work-based experience

Workforce Development Council Tech Prep Consortium Following her completion of the Computer Communications Networking Technology program through the Technology Center (Fremont, Ohio) and receipt of a diploma from Columbian High School (Tiffin, Ohio), Janelle Runion will be going to the United State Military Academy at West Point this summer. Workforce Development Council Tech Prep Consortium Following his completion of the Computer Communications Networking Technology program through the Technology Center (Fremont, Ohio) and receipt of a diploma from Fostoria High School (Fostoria, Ohio), Aaron Burrow will be attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). With a passion for positive change, he is on his way with a four-year, full scholarship. 2009 High School Graduate AARON BURROW – The Future Computer Engineer
