CARACTERÍSTICAS DE LA ESCULTURA ROMANA • Tiene dos influencias claras: la etrusca y la griega. • Retratos, relieves narrativos y sarcófagos. • Los etruscos influyeron en su concepto de retrato funerario que tendía al realismo. • De influencia griega: gusto por la alegoría, temas mitológicos y frívolos, retratos tanto realistas como idealizados y el relieve narrativo. • República: realismo, retratos de cabezas para conservar las imágenes de los antepasados. • Principios del Imperio: influencia clásica (idealización de las figuras), muchos artistas griegos. • A finales del II: retratos más realistas. • Imágenes del Emperador como propaganda: como pontífice (con la cabeza cubierta), divinizado (Júpiter desnudo) y como héroe militar a pie o a caballo. • Relieve narrativo sufre una evolución: I aC idealismo griego (Ara Pacis)/ I d C más realismo (Arco de Tito)/ Siglo II gusto por el detalle y por el relato, interés por la perspectiva o la belleza (Columna Trajana).
