  3. Who We Are • The Pomerantz Career Center • Established in 2001 • Located: Pomerantz Center, third floor • Hours: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday, year round • Fourteen full-time staff and 16 peer advisors dedicated to helping you succeed

Resume Development Continuously Seek Opportunities to Build & Expand Your Resume • Volunteer opportunities on-campus and within the community • Internships & graduate assistantships related to your field of choice • Research within your field of interest • Professional memberships within your field – hold an office • Conference attendance & presentations

Resume Development: Tailoring Your Resume • A tailored resume shines light on those qualifications a particular employer wants to see • Prioritize Information – Identify the skills and qualifications the employer is seeking and place most relevant information first • Use Descriptive Headings– Such as Relevant Experience, Professional Experience, Teaching Experience, Leadership Experience, Laboratory Skills, Product Management Experience • Use Industry Specific Language– Use abbreviations that are well known • Organize Related Information Together – Group related positions together and place in categories as mentioned above

  12. Experience Section: Tips • Place experiences in reverse chronological order • Always include dates of employment on the right • Place title of position before employer • Begin all bullet points with verbs • Include no less than 3 bullet points per position • Quantify when possible

Mock Interviews Purpose: Provide you with an opportunity to practice your interviewing skills in an environment similar to an actual interview Who: Employers from surrounding towns/cities volunteer their time to help students develop interview skills How: Sign-up on UI Employment Expo (Database of Jobs, Internships & Mock Interviews) Where: Pomerantz Career Center, C310 PC When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays Fall & Spring Semesters Cost: Free, if using Expo only for mock interviews

Iowa Career Exploration Network: ICE-Net • Connects UI students to UI alumni in a related field or area of study across the world. • Provides students the opportunity to conduct informational interviews to seek guidance about a particular profession or field. • Provides the opportunity to network and build professional relationships • Searchable through UI Employment Expo • Available Spring 2007
