  1. Cloud Computing Trends 2024 techdogs.com/td-articles/techno-trends/cloud-computing-trends-2024 Once upon a time, in the not-so-distant past, the world of computing was dominated by bulky machines and on-site servers. Information was confined to physical devices and geographical boundaries. Remember those heavy laptops and the floppy disks? It was so fascinating back then but then a revolution occurred – and changed the world of computing forever. Cloud computing, a concept that emerged in the early 21st century, transformed the way we store, access and manage data. It allowed us to break through the constraints of physical infrastructure, making data and applications accessible from anywhere with an internet connection. Over the years, cloud computing has evolved dramatically. The once-novel idea of virtual servers and storage has grown into a global industry, providing a vast array of services. It has empowered businesses and individuals to innovate, collaborate and scale one wouldn’t have thought of before. We live in a world where the imagination has no limits and those who stay on their toes, stay updated, and look to push the boundaries, are the ones never left behind. So, let's talk about the upcoming trends of Cloud Computing in 2024! Imagine a city where innovation thrived and a young, aspiring software developer named Emma lived. Emma had always been captivated by the world of technology and her passion led her to create a revolutionary app that could accurately predict the weather. However, Emma's app needed immense computational power to analyze vast amounts of data and her humble computer simply couldn't keep up. She was at a crossroads, unsure of how to proceed. Then, she met an IT guru named Max – and he changed her life for good. Max introduced Emma to the world of cloud computing and its latest trends. With cloud computing, she could seamlessly transition her app to the cloud and access a vast network of remote servers to process her app's data. The flexibility, scalability and cost-efficiency of cloud computing proved to be a game- changer for her project. However, in today's time, when there is a plethora of weather prediction apps, Emma needs to stay updated with the latest Cloud Computing trends and keep her application updated and at the forefront of innovation. Thankfully, she has Max! However, you might not have Max around to help you with the latest trends. Do not worry because we are here! Last year, we highlighted Cloud Computing Trends such as Cloud Automation, Cloud Gaming, SASE and integration with IoT and Blockchain. Read on as we discuss the top 5 trends of Cloud Computing in 2024! 1/5

  2. Trend 1: Networks Will Get Faster With Edge Computing Source Edge Computing has already brought processing and storage capacity closer to us and made things easier than ever. Yet, a new trend will appear as businesses and different industries will aim to leverage the capabilities of Edge Computing in 2024. This year, businesses will focus on bringing things closer to the data source, bringing efficiency and speed. As Edge Computing helps with latency issues and bandwidth optimization, traffic management and IoT applications will benefit from it. In 2024, with the increased adoption of 5G networks, Edge Computing will resolve the problems restricted due to limited connectivity. As per the latest reports by Accenture, around 28% of tactical firms have partially or fully integrated the edge into their cloud strategies, with more integration underway. While emphasizing Edge Computing, Sameer Bhatia, Director of Asia Pacific Consumer Business Group, stated, "Edge will play a crucial role by storing the key data and enabling latency-sensitive requests from endpoint transactions and services. Hence, as more data gets stored, it will become capable of computing functions. The Edge will further enable distributed computing to perform real-time and more accurate analysis of streaming data." TechDogs' Takeaway: Everyone wants an edge over their competitors, right? For businesses in the IoT industry, adopting Edge Computing will be beneficial given the increase in the data generated by IoT devices. Also, businesses should continue adding new edge devices/ nodes as they expand their use cases and networks, instead of leveraging more computing resources in a centralized data center. While data and connectivity costs are rising through the roof, edge computing will help businesses keep their budget tight as the data is processed at the source. Moreover, businesses transmitting large volumes of cloud data, especially in real-time, should use Edge Computing to eliminate the data round trip cost. Trend 2: Enterprise Clouds Will Integrate AI-As-A-Service Source No other trend has trended quite as much as AI! Artificial intelligence has brought a revolution in every industry possible. No wonder, there will be a growing demand for AI in various sectors such as healthcare, retail, automotive and finance, raising the adoption of cloud-based solutions. Cloud infrastructure has become necessary for bringing AI to every nook and cranny of the enterprise ecosystem for economic benefits. AI applications such as Large Language Models (LLMs) and Gen AI tools need to be trained on massive amounts of data, which requires computing power. While most businesses do not have enough resources to train the data, AI-as-a-service for cloud platforms will make this possible and help smaller businesses harness the true potential of AI this year! 2/5

  3. As per the latest report by Grand View Research, the global cloud AI market is projected to reach $ 647.60 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 39.6% from 2023 to 2030. This shows only one thing: Artificial Intelligence is the “new shiny thing” and it isn’t stopping anytime soon. Deepti Dutt, a leader at AWS India, validates this trend, saying, “By adopting advanced cloud-enabled technologies like generative AI, small businesses can accelerate their growth and digital transformation.” So, if you want your cloud to stay with the times, integrating AI-as-a-service will be critical! TechDogs' Takeaway: The dynamic duo of AI and Cloud will make it possible to avail AI-as-a-Service for small-to-medium businesses. Such businesses can optimize their resource allocation through real-time analytics, ensuring maximum efficiency and minimum downtime for AIaaS platforms. Furthermore, real-time analytics can also help businesses make data-driven decisions and grow their AI- driven projects confidently. Wondering about security? Well, with AI applications in the cloud, businesses can constantly monitor their network performance, detect anomalous activities and secure themselves against cyber threats. #SafeAndConfident Trend 3: Cloud Computing Will Go Server-less Source Imagine a world where you do not have to babysit servers, worry about their maintenance or even pay for the underutilized resources. Sigh of relief, right? Well, Serverless Computing is here, magically helping you deploy when needed and disappear once you are done! Serverless Computing is becoming popular with traditional mobile and web applications since it offers FaaS – Function as a Service. For example, Coca-Cola has been using serverless architecture for its payment services on its vending machines. Even Slack, a popular cloud-based business communication platform, has been using a serverless application called Marbot to send notifications from AWS to DevOps teams through Slack. While handling and streaming a large amount of data can be challenging, Netflix, the streaming platform pioneer, has been using serverless architecture to stream data rather than depending on traditional cloud-based servers. So, that’s how we’re binge-watching. Moreover, as per a recent survey by SaltStack, when two-thirds of organizations have more than 10% of their applications containerized, 40% of the organizations are yet to consider their container strategies and invest in security. Another 34% of organizations reported that their approach requires more details. This shows that businesses are interested in deploying containerized apps via serverless computing to boost their cloud strategies in 2024. TechDogs’ Takeaway: In today’s time, one of the primary concerns for any business is to reduce the efforts and costs it takes to maintain servers. While Serverless Computing frees developers, businesses should go for serverless computing to build lightweight and flexible applications. Further, serverless architecture lets developers adopt pay-as-you-go billing and design applications with agility, that too at a 3/5

  4. lower cost. Apart from all these reasons, a serverless application can be scaled easily and runs only when a user needs it, making it greener than the traditional applications in the cloud. If your business wants to #GoGreen, serverless computing might be the way to go! Trend 4: Hybrid And Multi-Cloud Computing Will Combine Source Who doesn’t like flexibility, right? While the hybrid cloud lets you operate on both public and private clouds, multi-cloud computing is a new concept, letting you use different cloud providers. It is like the IT team’s way of saying, ‘Why settle for one when you have them all?’ Talking about the latest industry trend in hybrid and multi-cloud computing, let’s go back to Netflix. The streaming giant uses hybrid cloud storage that combines Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and on-premises storage. At the same time, Netflix has also joined hands with Google Cloud Provider (GCP) for various services, including artificial intelligence and disaster recovery. This has given them the agility and flexibility to move from cloud to cloud without vendor lock-in or any other disruption. As per the latest survey by Flexera, 87% of the respondents reported having a multi-cloud strategy, while 72% are taking a hybrid approach, combining both public and private clouds. Even 451 Research analyst Owen Rofers stated in one of their reports, "The IT landscape of the next decade is all about diversity – any infrastructure, any cloud, any app. It's not chaos but opportunity; mastering multiple clouds is key." Hence, most businesses are expected to master the cloud through a combination of hybrid and multi- vendor approaches in 2024 and beyond. TechDogs’ Takeaway: While businesses can choose any cloud vendor according to their requirements, they should choose their cloud provider wisely. Along with the convenience and features offered by different cloud vendors, focus on security. With multiple cloud vendors, the security should only be tightened from both the business and vendor’s sides. Next, while your business can choose to adopt different cloud providers, you should avoid choosing vendor-specific cloud tools as that may lock you with the specific vendor and other vendors’ tools may not work efficiently. Lastly, think of AI-driven cloud tools (Trend 2) as Big Data insights gleaned by them can prove to be beneficial to businesses. Trend 5: Kubernetes Will Go Mainstream Source Let’s all warmly welcome Kubernetes as it will be one of the trending technologies for Cloud Computing in 2024. If you’re unaware, it is an open-source container orchestration system to automate software development, scaling and management. 4/5

  5. The future of Cloud Computing will be very exciting with the arrival of Kubernetes. With many businesses moving to the cloud, Kubernetes will make it easy for businesses to manage and deploy their applications in the cloud with the help of containers. Furthermore, it lets you scale your application up or down as needed. Besides providing flexibility, Kubernetes will drive CI/CD software development, big data processing and managing microservice architecture as well. Since every business wants to understand the potential of Kubernetes, many businesses have already started adopting Kubernetes – with the number expected to rise in the next few years. In fact, as per a study by Flexera, 78% of small and medium-sized businesses have adopted Kubernetes to manage their containerized applications. As we speak, more businesses are opting for Kubernetes, helping them build cloud-native microservices and containerized apps. TechDogs’ Takeaway: We bet you already work with containers in one way or another – but how about containerized cloud apps? To achieve this and enhance client experiences by improving cloud-based applications, developers should opt for Kubernetes. This will help reduce deployment cycles and enhance resource usage. Moreover, as Kubernetes offers container-based architecture, it can help businesses optimize the costs of app development and cloud deployments, especially businesses working at scale. Finally, Kubernetes can also help businesses run their applications with stability, as it lets developers roll updates to modify the cloud application. To Sum Up As we step into 2024, businesses of all sizes will be looking forward to adopting Cloud Computing in one way or the other. With the world breathing and living on the internet, cloud providers will aim to get better at helping businesses deploy their applications with ease. While many businesses will adopt hybrid or multi-cloud, others will opt for serverless computing. Naturally, AI will be a game-changer and Kubernetes the cloud underdog. It will be interesting to see how the world of cloud computing unfolds in 2024. What are you most excited about? 5/5
