  1. FRACTIONS MULTIPLICATION

  2. What is a Fraction? • When a whole thing is divided into 4 equal parts it is a fraction. It has two parts numerator and denominator.

  3. Example • Consider a cake . • When cut into two equal parts, the fraction of each part is 1 / 2 • 1 – part of the whole you have • 2 – Total parts

  4. Example • When the cake is cut into 4 equal parts, the fraction of each part would be 1 / 4. • 1 – part of the whole you have • 2 – Total parts

  5. Fractions in Real Life • Fractions are used in real life examples. • What is the amount of milk you buy daily? In Liters, half , 1/4 liters • Hence, fractions and arithmetic operatins in fractions are important to know.

  6. Fractions Multiplication • Multiplying fractions is very simpler than performing other arithmetic operations.

  7. You ate 1/2 of 1= 1/2 x 1 How to Multiply Fractions? • Consider an example, your father bought a cake. • 1)You ate half part of the cake and left the remaining. • 2) Yours sister and parents ate 1/3 of the • remaining cake. You ate 1/3 of 1/2= 1/3 x 1/2

  8. Solution • Just multiply the numerators and denominators separately. • 1/2 x 1/1 = 1 / 2 • 1/3 x 1/2 = 1 / 6

  9. Complex Fractions Multiplication • Multiply 2 / 8 of 3 / 2 • = 2 x 3 / 8 x 2 • = 6 / 16 • Now this equation can be simplified. • = 6 divided by 2 • 16 divided by 2 • = 3 / 8 • Another way, • = 2 x 3 = 3 / 8 • 8 x 2
