  2. What is OPT? It is a training program that temporarily allows International Students with an F1 visa in the USA to work for 12 months. After 12 you can extend the visa for 24 months if your course is in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). You have to apply for OPT once for each degree level. 02

  3. Types of OPT • Pre-completion OPT: Before Graduation • Post-completion OPT: After Graduation • 24-month STEM extension: After initial OPT for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). It's crucial to know and understand the difference. 03

  4. Eligibility F1 Students (Students on an educational visas in the USA). Students enrolled for full-time education for at least one year. After completing the course study (post-completion OPT). Those who have not used the 12 months or more full-time Curricular Practical Training (CPT). 04

  5. Types of Employment Allowed Paid Employment. Unpaid Employment (volunteers, unpaid internship). Note: OPT employment must be in a job that is related to your academics. 05

  6. When to apply for STEM OPT? When to Apply? Did you know? No earlier than 90 days and no later than 45 days before the EAD expires. Not 90 days before the completion of the program. Not 60 days after the end of the program. 06

  7. Program End date for OPT? • Two Options: • Thesis. • End of Last Semester of academic studies. 07

List of Documents required for OPT • OPT Recommendation Form. • Form I-765. • Form G-1145. • 2 Passport Size Photographs. • Copies of Passport Bio Page. • Copies of F1 visa stamp and I-94 card/record. • Copies of all the previous I-20 forms till now. • Copies of the new I-20 form with OPT recommendation. 08

Cont... • Cheque or money order for $410 payable to U.S Department of Homeland Security. • Credit Card Payment Form G-1450. • Copies of previous EADs. • FGUC Academic Advisor Letter of Recommendation for OPT. • Personal Letter of OPT application. • Copies of Degrees and Official Transcripts (for STEM applicants only). 09
