Even then, his desire to become the best was evident, as he was among the first to book acts such as the Fishbone, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Run DMC, Social Distortion and Fear among others. Lyor Cohen: Humble Beginnings Lyor Cohen’s foray into the music industry began well over thirty years ago. Back then as a concert promoter and rap pioneer, he helped promote acts such as Run DMC and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. This experience would open the door for Lyor Cohen to become road manager for Rush Entertainment, a successful venture he would lead together with partner Russell Simmons.
