A lot of students taking up online learning, find them very useful as it helps them jump up the career ladder without having to give up full-time work. But not everyone’s excited, especially those who prefer the buzz and excitement associated with conventional colleges. If you are on the fence about joining an online program, here are a few things to help you decide. Are you self-disciplined? Are you a stickler for deadlines? Are you someone who easily gives in to temptation? Online learning is not for procrastinators. Most online programs follow a rigorous schedule. You cannot afford to miss assignment deadlines – even missing one due datecould have a domino effect. Of course, you can always ask friends, can you do my homework, but you cannot rely on them for the entire course. Are you self-motivated? Unlike an in-class course, online learningfollows the same routine. You log in to listen to the video lectures, complete assignments, comment on discussion boards and take up exams. Nothing is ever done out of the blue – everything, including the quiz schedule, is planned ahead. Successful online students are highly motivated. They do not mind the humdrum of online learning. To manage the boredom that occasionally creeps in, they join course related forums and discussion posts. Some of them even take up virtual group studies.
