  2. History • Ohio was the 17th state to join the Union. The date was March 1st 1803. • The first people to see Ohio lived there in the last centuries of the Ice Age. They hunted Mammoth. • Ohio has many prehistoric Indian sites • French explorers were the first Europeans in Ohio

The water wore away the rock leaving tunnels. • Highest point: Campbell Hill at 1,550 feet (472 meters) • Ohio Caverns is Ohio's largest cave • Lowest point: along the Ohio River in Hamilton County at 433 feet (144.3 meters) • Ohio caves
