Cross Sector Partners and Collaborators • Bronx Documentary Center: Work with expanded group of youth and local Bronx photographers to document healthy food programming, community led physical activity events, beautification and expanded utilization of open spaces. • Casita Maria: Improve open space and built environment with artists and youth as change agents to activate public space through the arts, while also engaging the entire community through pop-up events • Claremont Neighborhood Centers: Project co-direction as well as community engagement and recruitment. A cornerstone of Claremont NYCHA Developments, CNC serves as the main hub for programs and activities. Develops, introduces and facilitates new programs and resources to enhance grant activities such as Restorative Justice /Peace Circle program. • Department of Family Medicine at Bronx-Lebanon: Contribute curriculum for nutrition education, health and wellness education and services, resources to conduct classes, health-related youth internship opportunities; Project co-direction. • Directions For Our Youth (DFOY): Hosts and coordinates two of the Urban Ambassadors of Hope Youth Leadership Councils that works to empower and engage community youth to identify social and environmental issues with the goal of developing and implementing youth-led solutions. • GrowNYC: Improve local food systems by training youth to give nutrition education and cooking workshops that are connected to existing Youth Market, green carts and outreach to local stores.

  3. Long-term Goal: To create a self sustained culture of health and wellness in the Claremont community. Expand residents’ utilization of open space, encourage and educate on the importance of exercise and nutrition. Additionally, expand access and consumption of healthy food while forming an engaged community that is empowered to advocate for the change they envision. Short-term Goal To continue development of an integrated partnership with local schools and infrastructure organizations, expanding capability of existing partnerships within Claremont Village to sustain and expand activities that promote open space usage, exercise, food access and nutrition.

Top Accomplishments • Development and implementation of youth council to identify social and environmental issues in order to create youth-led solutions, including shop healthy initiative and internships • Partnering with the NYC Department of Parks and local community members to plan and complete park and open space cleaning projects within NYCHA housing developments and Crotona Park • Successful expansion of partnership and commitment with flagship schools • Partnering with Mapscorps to train and engage 20 youth in community assets mapping and photo documentation during the summer 2016 • Artists work with community youth to learn about nutrition and health eating in their communityhttps://vimeo.com/185482846

Lessons Learned Lesson #1 Essential communication and trust between partners is a necessity Lesson #2 Keeping the community interested is hard work – To receive consistent input, ideas and strategies from partners that lead to accomplishing attainable goals Lesson #3 The importance of getting to know the community, and balancing our roles as workers in the community contrasted to residents of the community
