All Eyes on the Network • New Video Solutions Thanks to IP • Just as the Internet has revolutionized the way that people share information, data networks are transforming the cost and convenience of delivering video for applications ranging from security, monitoring, and medical to machine vision and so-called “web attractions”. With IP (Internet Protocol) as the “native language” of the internet, it is becoming increasingly easier, flexible and more cost effective than ever for businesses to survey, monitor and act on video images from any location, however remote. • From Analog to Digital with Sony • Recognizing the impact that networks are having on users of video everywhere, Sony is offering a new generation of solutions that make the networked transmission and management of video a reality. These solutions enable the user to switch from analog to digital, enabling the capture, transmission and storage of video signals in digital format. • This module details the solutions available for transmitting and controlling video over a TCP/IP network.

Solutions for Video Monitoring over IP • Video monitoring over IP consists of transmitting and controlling video over a TCP/IP network*. • It offers a number of advantages compared to analog video monitoring as explained in a later slide. • Solutions for video monitoring over IP are aimed at three main application areas: • Web attractions • Surveillance • Remote monitoring • SONY offers 2 types of IP Network camera • SNC-VL10N and SNC-VL10P • SNC-RZ30N (Pan / Tilt / Zoom camera ) * Please refer to Basic Training on IP technology - part 1.

Applications of Video Monitoring Over IP • The three main application areas targeted can be defined as following: • E-Surveillance -The merging of the analog and digital worlds is particularly relevant to surveillance applications, where existing CCTV systems are being integrated into the IT environment, enriching them with new functions and greater flexibility at a lower cost. • Web attractions - Posting real-time images on a network (very often the Internet) is making websites very popular. • Remote monitoring - Enabling processes taking place in your professional environment (factory, construction work, etc.) to be viewed while working from home or at your office desk.

Product Solutions for Video Over IP The Network Camera Function • A network camera is a video camera that contains a compression circuit and a computer with a TCP/IP interface. • It is a stand alone unit with its own IP address that can be directly connected to the network without the need for a separate computer. • Normally it has a built-in web server, while also supporting a number of network protocols like FTP, SMTP (e-mail), DHCP, SNMP etc.* • A network camera is much superior to a web-cam! • A web-cam or internet camera requires a PC and specific software, and the web-cam and PC need to be placed close together. Product Solutions for Video Over IPThe Network Camera Solution from Sony • The SNC-VL10N/P Network Camera is a high-quality color video camera that allows remote monitoring from anywhere, any time, using a standard web browser. • Up to 100 users can access the camera simultaneously. • Wavelet compression provides a high refresh rate even with limited bandwidth. • Image distribution can be easily done through FTP/SMTP*. • Supplied with a built-in vari-focal lens. • Integration into existing CCTV systems using the camera composite video output. • In-Line Power Hub Capability IEEE 802.af • Supports unattended operation thanks to embedded motion detector. • Alarm/Event handling can be achieved via either the camera’s embedded motion detector or an external alarm input. * Please refer to the Sony terminology on this website.

Product Solutions for Video over IPThe Network Camera Solution from Sony • The SNC-RZ30N Network Camera is a high-quality, color video camera that allows remote monitoring from anywhere, any time, using a standard web browser with high speed and quiet Pan / Tilt / Zoom functions. • 25 x Optical Zoom and 12 x Electrical Zoom (total 300 x). • Up to 50 users can access the camera simultaneously. • Image distribution can be easily done through FTP/SMTP*. • Integration into existing CCTV systems using the camera composite video output. • PCMCIA slot for Micro HDD and Memory Stick local recording. • Supports unattended operation thanks to embedded motion detector. • Alarm/Event handling can be achieved via either the camera’s embedded motion detector or an external alarm input. • Motion Stabilizer Function. • Day / Night Function • IR cut filter removable * Please refer to the Sony terminology on this website.

How Sony Solutions Apply to Your Application • Sony solutions suit a wide variety of applications for Video over IP, allowing you to monitor and manage networked video devices easily via a PC and web browser or application software. • The following slides explain how these Sony solutions can be used for your application while connected to any public or private network– the Internet or corporate intranets: • E-Surveillance: Parking lots, hotel lobbies, reception areas, warehouses, access control for staff, surveillance of private property such as villas, yachts… • Web attractions: Ski resorts, hotels, city centers, zoos, theme parks, concerts, sports events, world weather reports, road traffic… • Remote Monitoring: Access control of computer and server rooms, construction work, production lines, nursery, child care, animal conditions, queues at cashier...

NAS “E-Surveillance” Applications • Sony IP cameras are ideal for sharing high-quality video streams over computer networks to provide 24-hour security. • The video can be monitored and controlled from a PC through a standard web browser or by using dedicated application software.   10. “Web Attraction” Applications • The attractiveness of a web site can be further increased by quality live video that will capture the eye and enhance the imagination. • Posting real-time images on a network is what makes the web attractive and popular these days. • Example how to implement your web attraction: • Connect a network camera (SNC-VL10N or SNC-RZ30N) to the ISP (Internet Service Provider) who is hosting your web site. • The network camera/server connects with the ISP to transfer a new image at regular intervals via FTP (File Transfer Protocol). The interval determines how ‘real-time’ the images are that are transmitted to the whole Internet community. Camera control Broadband Internet Image data

  11. “Remote Monitoring” Application • Remote Monitoring covers a wide range of applications. A typical example is remote control of access to secured areas like telephone exchanges, assembly lines or server rooms. • As soon as a service engineer pushes the door bell, the operator receives a warning and can visually verify if the engineer is authorised to enter the room. • The operator can now unlock the door and subsequently monitor the engineer’s activities. • Factory assembly line can be monitored by center station.   12. GUI and Web-Server • Since SONY IP cameras incorporate built-in web-server, you need just a standard browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator on the client side. • User friendly GUI (graphic user interface) allows you to control all camera and sever functions from client PC.
