  2. Reflection Now that you have read the prologue to Ethan Frome, write me a reflection about how you felt about it. What kinds of things did you notice about the writing? What did you like about it? What didn’t you like about it? How would you have done it differently? Did anything make you curious? You have 10 minutes to write.

  3. Objectives: By the end of today we will be able to: Explain our thoughts about faithfulness in relationships. Analyze how Ethan Frome treats the ideas of faithfulness and how we see it today. Identify the arguments surrounding faithfulness in Ethan Frome and compare them to the ideas of today Identify key words important to the first chapters of Ethan Frome.

  6. Think-Pair-Share Take 1 minute and gather your thoughts. Take 2 minutes and talk to the people sitting next to you about what you wrote. Be prepared to discuss with the class.

  7. Popcorn Reading As we begin reading chapter 1 out loud stop us by saying “STOP!” if you have any comments, questions or concerns, or if you notice symbolism, faithfulness/cheating, or anything else about the book you’d like to talk about.

  8. Homework! • Choose an outside reading book. • Read through chapter 2. As you read, make note of symbolism and other choices Edith Wharton made that affect the story.
