Se desarrolla mejor en suelo fértil y al margen de los ríos, a elevaciones entre 200 y 1500 metros sobre el nivel del mar.DESCRIPCION DE LA MADERA:-El color varía de Rojo claro a Café Rojizo oscuro, la madera cuanto más densa más oscura. Ni olor ni sabor característicos. El grano es generalmente recto, textura fina y uniforme de lustre alto.PROPIEDADES FISICAS:- Madera liviana, peso específico promedio 0,15 "(peso seco al horno y volúmen verde)".- La madera pierde Humedad fácil y rápidamente con mínima distorción, contracción volumétrica pequeña y por lo tanto estabilidad dimensional excelente.PROPIEDADES MECANICAS:- bajasSECADO:- La madera seca rápidamente sin mucho deterioro.-MOVIMIENTO:- Contenido de humedad 19 % en Humedad relativa 90%- Contenido de humedad 12,5% en humedad relativa 60%Correspondiente movimiento tangencial 13 %Correspondiente movimiento radial 1 %Clasificación:- Movimiento pequeñoDURABILIDAD NATURAL:- DurableExtremadamente resistente al tratamiento de preservativos.-PROPIEDADES DE TRABAJO:-Sin problemas para la maquinaria y herramientas manuales. Se la clava y atornilla fácilmente. Excelente resultado para secado y lustre, torneado y ensamblado, se puede pegar y laquear.-USOS:- Conocida muy especialmente para contrachapado, mueblería de lujo, decorado, interiores y exteriores, manufacturado de hélices, y en general donde se necesite una madera atractiva y estable dimensionalmente, también para instrumentos científicos.-LA CAOBA es la MADERA MAS VALIOSOS DE LA AMERICA TROPICAL.-
