  1. ExSL The Execution in Entrepreneurial Schools Leadership Program Overview

  2. Our Goals • Enable faster and greater achievement of academic excellence • Increase probability of overall success of participant schools

  3. ExSL Principals will gain… • Exposure and access to the great wisdom and insight which can be gleaned from successful start-ups and entrepreneurs in other industries • Internalization and demonstration of key entrepreneurial skills for effective execution in a start-up context • Creation of an entrepreneurial school operations plan informed by effective entrepreneurial practice

  4. ExSL Framework At the core of the ExSL Framework, is the concept that school leaders must have a focused and prioritized approach to execution. • Running a school is a dynamic experience; school leaders are forced to do every thing at once from providing a safe environment for learning, having a strong curriculum and excellent extra curricular programs- the list goes on. • The reality is that you must operationally do everything at once, but if you focuson everything at once you will do nothing well. • The 80/20 rule applies here. You will focus 80% of your efforts on your focus area.

  5. ExSL Framework - Overview • Phase 0 – Team Development • Phase 1 – School Culture: Aspirational and Constructive Learning Environments • Phase 2 – Core Literacy • Phase 3 – Core Math • Phase 4 & Beyond – Higher order skills and the broader program

  8. Coursework and Framework Themes • Efforts vs. Results • Winning organizations focus their efforts and measure results instead of activities • Focus • Nature of entrepreneurial organizations makes it especially challenging to keep the urgent from eclipsing the important • Data and Strategy Driven Decision Making • Setting milestones and objectives with clear goals and timelines that are tied to the strategy of the organization • Anticipating Potholes and Ditches • Successful entrepreneurs have thought through the process of how they will adapt their plan when they hit roadblocks

  9. The ExSL Operational Plan Summer Institute deliverables include a highly detailed entrepreneurial road map and executable operations school plan for start-up phase years one and two which addresses team development, school culture, core literacy and core math.
