    2. Love One Another As I have loved you, Love one another. This new commandment: Love one another. By this shall men know Ye are my disciples, If ye have love One to another. The text of this hymn comes from John 13:3435. Jesus spoke these words at the Last Supper. This lesson will discuss this commandment and other things Jesus said and did during this meeting with his Apostles. Preparation for the last supper JST Luke 22:7-13 7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. 8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go, and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. 9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare. 10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye have entered into the city, there shall a man meet you bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in. 11 And ye shall say unto the good man of the house, The Master saith unto you, Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? 12 And he shall show you a large upper room furnished; there make ready. 13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them; and they made ready the passover. Instituting the Sacrament JST Luke 22:14-20 14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. 15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer; 16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled which is written in the prophets concerning me. Then I will partake with you, in the kingdom of God. 17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this and divide among yourselves; 18 For I say unto you, that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. 19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you; this do in remembrance of me. 20 Likewise also the cup, after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood which is shed for you.

Holland Since that upper room experience on the eve of Gethsemane and Golgotha, children of the promise have been under covenant to remember Christs sacrifice in this newer, higher, more holy and personal way. If remembering is the principal task before us, what might come to our memory when those plain and precious emblems are offered to us? (in Conference Report, Oct. 1995, 88, 90; or Ensign, Nov. 1995, 67, 68). That he is the Creator of heaven and earth. All that he did in his premortal life as Jehovah. The simple grandeur of his birth. His teachings. His miracles and healings. That all things which are good cometh of Christ. The unkind treatment, rejection, and injustice he endured. That he descended below all things in order to rise above them.     7. The name of Christ When do we take upon ourselves the name of Christ? When we are baptized into his Church. When we renew our baptismal covenants by partaking of the sacrament. When we proclaim our belief in him (bear our testimony). When we take upon ourselves the authority to act in his name and exercise that authority.     8. The name of Christ What do we promise when we take upon ourselves the name of Christ? We signify our willingness to do the work of his kingdom and our determination to serve him to the end. I am not as he who sitteth at meat, but I am among you as he who serveth. An example of service JST John 13:4-11 4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. 5 After that he poureth water into a basin, and he began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. 6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter; and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. 8 Peter saith unto him, Thou needest not to wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. 9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. 10 Jesus saith to him, He that has washed his hands and his head, needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit; and ye are clean, but not all. Now this was the custom of the Jews under their law; wherefore, Jesus did this that the law might be fulfilled. 11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
