Legislation National Law • Law 48 of year 1982 regulates the protection of all fresh and non-fresh surface waters and reservoirs • Law No. 4, passed in 1994, is the main Environmental Law in Egypt concerning the environment and its executive regulation number 1741 of year 2005 • Law 124 of the year 1983 regulates Fishing, aquatic life, and fish farms • Decree 329 for the year 1985 to allocate aquaculture in Mariout Lake • Law 102 of year 1983 regulates Natural protectorates in Egypt

Legislation EU Guidelines • 2000/60/EC Directive establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy (Water Framework Directive), and it’s amended by directive 2008/32/EC • Council Directive 86/280/EEC of 12 June 1986 on limit values and quality objectives for discharges of certain dangerous substances included in List I of the Annex to Directive 76/464/EEC; Complement to 76/464/EEC.
