  4. What are conflicts? • Disagreements or problems in a relationship

  5. Brainstorm: Why do people have conflicts? • People think differently and have different personalities, wants and needs.

  6. Methods of Resolving Conflicts • Voice your concerns • Decide what the problem is • Listen to the other side • Suggest all possible solutions • Good conversation skills • Find the right time to resolve conflicts • Avoid bringing up a conflict when people are busy • Deal with issues, not personalities • Don’t allow conflict to go without being resolved

  7. Manners • Rules for proper conduct • Form of nonverbal communication • Makes others feel comfortable • Reflects your attitude toward others

  8. Active Listening • Involves the listener in the communication process • Restate what the speaker says “You mean…” • Send signals such as nodding your head • Ask questions to clarify • Listen before answering • Don’t interrupt • Keep your mind on what the speaker is saying.

  9. “I Messages” • “I feel…” • Do not say “You…” • Do not place the blame • State your feelings
