Workload & Position Description Total Workload = standard minimum teaching load + additional workload equivalency activities • Total Workload not to exceed 15(16) contact hours (8 ch) • Teaching Load = contact hours spent in classroom instruction • 1.0 FTE = 12 contact hours & 0.5 FTE = 6 contact hours • Additional Workload Equivalency = equivalent to 3(4) contact hours • Vary by college, department and/or individual • Determined by dept. chair or program director - approved by Dean • E.g., additional teaching hours, considerations for class size, writing content, # preps, course type, student level (undergrad/grad), non-instructional duties (lab prep, program director, coach, etc.), scholarly activities, service activities, etc.

Professional Development • Required for IAS to stay current in his/her discipline • May also be required for individual &/or department certification or accreditation • Include workshops, conferences, literature reviews, etc. • Professional Development Grants are available (see http://www.uwlax.edu/grants/index.htm)

  33. Research • Any creative endeavor that results in original contribution’s to one’s discipline, is reviewed by one’s peers and whose results are widely published. • NOT a requirement for most IAS • Research Grants are available (see http://www.uwlax.edu/provost/grants/index.htm)

Career Progression: General Policies • Accrue semesters • % appt. disregarded • Summer & J-Term not counted • Years at other institutions negotiated with Dean at time of initial appointment • After 4 semesters away from UW-L - lose YOS • Must be at UW-L immediately prior to CP application • CP based on accomplishments - not YOS • $1,000 salary ‘bump’ with CP approval • See full policy for details
