THE DOCUMENT • English language has a main role in the educational process • of a human being • It also promotes the acquisition of communicative abilities • through the use of strategies in order to achieve autonomy • and social integration • These strategies aim to improve abilities necessary to build • up general linguistic competence.

  3. 1st GRADE and 1st BIENNIO Language acquisition should happen in a meaningful linguistic and emotional context through the use of motivating activities which enable the acquisition and the use of lexis within easy structures.

  4. 1st GRADE and 1st BIENNIO The material to be used should be : • Songs, rhymes, stories, games,sound chains • The description of familiar places (home, school, town)

  5. 1st GRADE and 1st BIENNIO • The description of food, meals and traditional local and national recipes • The description of ordinary and famous people who play an important emotional role in the child’s life, everyday events and situations which are of evidence

  6. RECEPTIVE SKILLS • Listening global oral comprehension which takes into account paralinguistic, extra-linguistic and prosodic issues. • Reading understanding of simple texts in order to grasp either familiar or already known words.

  7. RECEPTIVE SKILLS • Listening texts should be chosen according to: • Learners’ age • Cultural and linguistic background • Learners’ ability in using different strategies

  8. RECEPTIVE SKILLS • Reading texts – some examples : • Adverts • Postcards • Instructions within visual messages • Slogans

  9. PRODUCTIVE SKILL • SPEAKING – INTERACTION The usage of language in a communicative context in pair or group work ( language games, memory games, drama, sketches) Particular attention must be paid to intonation and pronunciation

  10. LANGUAGE LAB 1st grade-biennio • Ordinary meaning : a space where learners through the use of technology can practice the language • In the Recommendations : particular way of teaching and learning a foreign language through the use of multimedia…

  11. LANGUAGE LAB 1st grade-biennio Its peculiarities : • Choice of the material useful for teaching the foreign language (drawings, posters, cartoons, images) within short and flexible linguistic modules

  12. LANGUAGE LAB 1st grade-biennio • Wide range of activities : • listening ( songs, rhymes, chants) • drama and miming ( short sketches, dialogues ; musical and choral performances)
