  1. Invensys Platform and InTouch Implementations, PG & E, Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant OXNU132 Presented by Kris D. Jentzsch Project Engineer, PG&E DCPP November 8, 2011

  2. Pillars of Operational Excellence and Focus of This Discussion Operational Excellence Level 3 (Multi-plant/Multi-site) Environment And Safety People Level 2 (Plant Floor/Area) Asset Level 1 (Resource/Asset) Control

  3. Invensys System Platform and InTouch Implementations - DCPP • A presentation of Invensys applications at Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP) • System Platform (Wonderware/ArchestrA) solution for the Auxiliary Control Board System at DCPP • Overview of System Platform implementation for the Primary Plant Computer (PPC) • Triconex/InTouch applications in other plant systems

  4. Invensys System Platform and InTouch Implementations - DCPP Diablo Canyon Power Plant Avila Beach, CA – about half-way between San Francisco and Los Angeles Two Unit Westinghouse Pressurized Water Reactors Commercial Operation since 1987

  5. Invensys System Platform and InTouch Implementations - DCPP • Project Services Department • Project Management and Project Engineering Services • Instrumentation & Control Obsolescence Management (ICOM) ProgramProject Manager Supervisor – Scott Patterson - Triconex Steering Committee Member • Project Administration and Implementation for I&C Long-Term Plan • Class 1 Systems – Tricon with InTouch Visualization • Class 2 Systems – Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix) DACS • Auxiliary Board – System Platform with InTouch • Primary Plant Computer (PPC) – System Platform with InTouch

  6. Auxiliary Board Project • Auxiliary Board Operation • Plant Operators control the gathering, treatment, and discharge of hazardous waste products created during operation of the DCPP U1 and U2 power plants. • Liquid Radwaste System (LRW) collects and processes the radioactive liquid wastes generated during plant operation. • Gaseous Radwaste System (GRW) collects and processes the radioactive gaseous wastes generated during plant operation. • Chemical and Volume Control System (CVCS) collects and processes borated radioactive effluents from the Reactor Coolant System. • Reduces the activity to levels acceptable for discharge to the environment.

  7. Auxiliary Board Project • Originally a Fluidic Logic controlled system • Discrete pneumatic NAND devices • Negative Logic • Components Obsolete in early 90’s • Control System lacking in Human Performance factors design • Piecemeal changes during construction and early years of operation

  8. Auxiliary Board Project GRW Console LRW Console

  10. Auxiliary Board Project Challenges Hardware Implementation Retrofit to existing panels Operational Needs Wiring Issues Interface to other obsolete components Interface to existing pneumatic devices No infrastructure for communication devices Software Implementation Soft Controls Human Performance Factors Operator Obsolescence Display of Information Alarming Schemes Site Policies and Operating Procedures Maintenance Interfaces

  11. Auxiliary Board Project Solution • Data Acquisition and Control • Allen-Bradley ControlLogix • Small Footprint for retrofitting panels • Available Redundancy Operation • Versatile Interfaces to existing plant components • Vendor Network for communication between chassis • Ethernet Communication to System Platform • Invensys System Platform • Redundant Application Object Servers (10.1 SP2) • Historian (10.0) • InTouch Operator Interface (10.1) • Historian Client (Active Factory) Trending (10.0) • Interface to Plant Data Network (PDN) • Ethernet Communications
