  7. For the fruits of his creation 1. For the fruits of his creation, thanks be to God; for his gifts to every nation, thanks be to God; for the ploughing, sowing, reaping, silent growth while we are sleeping, future needs in earth’s safe keeping, thanks be to God.

  8. For the fruits of his creation 2. In the just reward of labour, God’s will is done; in the help we give our neighbour, God’s will is done; in our world-wide task of caring for the hungry and despairing, in the harvests we are sharing, God’s will is done.

  9. For the fruits of his creation 3. For the harvests of his Spirit, thanks be to God; For the good we all inherit, thanks be to God; For the wonders that astound us, for the truths that still confound us; most of all, that love has found us, thanks be to God. †

  18. PRAYER OF THE DAY For you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

  19. FIRST READING R: The First reading for the 19th Sunday after Pentecost is written in Chapter 23 of Job beginning at verse one. Job 23:1-9,16,17Job's complaint against God

  20. Job 23:1-9,16,17 Job said: Today I complain bitterly, because God has been cruel and made me suffer.   • 3If I knew where to find God, I would go there 4and argue my case. 5Then I would discover what he wanted to say. 6Would he overwhelm me with his greatness? No! He would listen 7because I am innocent, and he would say, "I now set you free!”

  21. Job 23:1-9,16,17 8I cannot find God anywhere in front or back of me, 9to my left or my right. God is always at work, though I never see him. 15Merely the thought of God All-Powerful 16makes me tremble with fear. 17God has covered me with darkness, but I refuse to be silent.  This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  22. Psalm 22:1-15 CEV R: The Psalm is Psalm 22 R: My God, my God, why have you deserted me? Why are you so far away? Won't you listen to my groans and come to my rescue?   C: I cry out day and night, but you don't answer, and I can never rest.

  23. Psalm 22:1-15 CEV R: 3Yet you are the holy God, ruling from your throne and praised by Israel. C: 4Our ancestors trusted you, and you rescued them. R: 5When they cried out for help, you saved them, and you did not let them down when they depended on you.

  24. Psalm 22:1-15 CEV C: 6But I am merely a worm, far less than human, and I am hated and rejected by people everywhere. R: 7Everyone who sees me makes fun and sneers. They shake their heads, 8and say, C:"Trust the LORD! If you are his favourite, let him protect you and keep you safe.”

  25. Psalm 22:1-15 CEV R: 9You, LORD, brought me safely through birth, and you protected me when I was a baby at my mother's breast. C: 10From the day I was born, I have been in your care, and from the time of my birth, you have been my God.

  26. Psalm 22:1-15 CEV R: 11Don't stay far off when I am in trouble with no one to help me. C: 12Enemies are all around like a herd of wild bulls. Powerful bulls from Bashan are everywhere.  R: 13My enemies are like lions roaring and attacking with jaws open wide.

  27. Psalm 22:1-15 CEV C:14I have no more strength than a few drops of water. All my bones are out of joint; my heart is like melted wax. R:15My strength has dried up like a broken clay pot, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.

  28. Psalm 22:1-15 CEV C: You, God, have left me to die in the dirt. Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, As it was in the beginning is now and will be for ever. Amen

  29. Second reading R: The second reading is written in Chapter 4 of Hebrews beginning at verse 12. Hebrews 4:12-16 Jesus our high priest is merciful

  30. Hebrews 4:12-16 12What God has said isn't only alive and active! It is sharper than any double-edged sword. His word can cut through our spirits and souls and through our joints and marrow, until it discovers the desires and thoughts of our hearts.

  31. Hebrews 4:12-16 13Nothing is hidden from God! He sees through everything, and we will have to tell him the truth.  14We have a great high priest, who has gone into heaven, and he is Jesus the Son of God. That is why we must hold on to what we have said about him.

  32. Hebrews 4:12-16 15Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin! 16So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved kindness, and we will find help.  This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  33. GOSPEL M: The Holy Gospel is written in Chapter 10 of the Gospel according to St Mark beginning at verse 17. C: Glory to you O Lord. Mark 10:17-31 The rich man goes away sad

  34. Mark 10:17-31 17As Jesus was walking down a road, a man ran up to him. He knelt down, and asked, "Good teacher, what can I do to have eternal life?" 18Jesus replied, "Why do you call me good? Only God is good.

  35. Mark 10:17-31 19You know the commandments. 'Do not murder. Be faithful in marriage. Do not steal. Do not tell lies about others. Do not cheat. Respect your father and mother.' " 20The man answered, "Teacher, I have obeyed all these commandments since I was a young man.”

  36. Mark 10:17-31 21Jesus looked closely at the man. He liked him and said, "There's one thing you still need to do. Go sell everything you own. Give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven. Then come with me." 22When the man heard Jesus say this, he went away gloomy and sad because he was very rich.

  37. Mark 10:17-31 23Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "It's hard for rich people to get into God's kingdom!" 24The disciples were shocked to hear this. So Jesus told them again, "It's terribly hard to get into God's kingdom! 25In fact, it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into God's kingdom.“

  38. Mark 10:17-31 26Jesus' disciples were even more amazed. They asked each other, "How can anyone ever be saved?"  27Jesus looked at them and said, "There are some things that people cannot do, but God can do anything.”

  39. Mark 10:17-31 28Peter replied, "Remember, we left everything to be your followers!"  29Jesus told him: You can be sure that anyone who gives up home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or land for me and for the good news 30will be rewarded.

  40. Mark 10:17-31 In this world they will be given a hundred times as many houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and pieces of land, though they will also be mistreated. And in the world to come, they will have eternal life.

  41. Mark 10:17-31 31But many who are now first will be last, and many who are now last will be first. This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you O Christ.

  42. M: Thank you, Lord Jesus, for calling us to be your followers. Help us to put you first in our lives. C: Amen.

  43. APOSTLE’S CREED C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

  44. APOSTLE’S CREED And in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead.

  45. APOSTLE’S CREED He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty, from thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.
