Background of BRAC’s Enterprise Development Programme (EDP) • At present BRAC is implementing the micro finance and other employment & income generation activities (EIG) for the poor. • BRAC is now trying to involve the marginal farmers more rather than poor in Enterprise Development of Agriculture sector. • Marginal farmers could play an important role in Agril. production and national economy.

BRAC’s Enterprise Development in Agricultural Sector • Wide scope in Agricultural activities • Agro based production Enterprise, where marginal farmers are the targeted beneficiary. • Farmers under its own enterprise organization. • As a requirement of the Enterprise program BRAC provide intensive technical training and credit Support.

Objectives of BRAC’s Enterprise Development Programme • To generate income and create employment opportunities and enhance increase farm level income that helps poverty alleviation. • To develop existing enterprises by providing technical assistance and financial support. • To mobilize the marginal farmers socially, to strengthen them by building awareness, confidence and articulation. • To increase agricultural production. • To enhance agricultural practices.

  6. Selection Criteria of BRAC’s Enterprise Development Programme • Marginal farmers who are productive farmers and aged between 18 to 60 . • Marginal farmers who owns up to 1 and ½ acre of land. • Involve in Agricultural activities. • Lack of credit to buy inputs for enhancing production. • Who are living in that area since the last 5 years.

  7. Implementation Process • Enterprise group size is around 20 to 25 • Minimum group size is 10 • Weekly meeting takes place on a fixed day at a designated place in the morning • Loan repayment, selection criteria of new borrowers, agreement for loan, savings deposit and other related activities are carried on in the weekly meeting • Loan application is completed and signed by the borrower with the recommendation of small group leader • Loan will be disbursed with in seven days of the approval and the borrower will collect the money from the accountant of BRAC Area Office.
