  4. The German Railway Industry Association • The German Railway Industry Association (VDB) is the industrial association of the railway equipment manufacturers in Germany. • It represents the interests of more than 170 member companies – many of them are worldwide leading system integratorsand highly specialized small and medium sized suppliers (SME’s). • The VDB members develop and manufacture systems and components for rail vehicles and their infrastructure. In addition to that they offer a broad range of services for the railway engineering. • The VDB is organized in 19 working andtopical committees. 16. III. Rail freight transport and sustainability German Railway Industry Association ▪ Railway Days - The wider Black Sea area railway investment summit ▪ Bucharest, 8.-9. October 2013

  17. Quiet significant reduction of noise emissions Light Larger payload Less net mass Robustness Reduction of downtime Increase in annual mileages Logistic capabilities Integration in supply chains High quality control LCC-orientation Optimized return on investment Operations and maintenance savings Sustainability - Growth factors of freight traffic • LCC-oriented • Logistics capabilties • Robustness • Light Environmental and climate protection Profitability • Quiet source: TIS 2012 German Railway Industry Association ▪ Railway Days - The wider Black Sea area railway investment summit ▪ Bucharest, 8.-9. October 2013

  18. The LL-brake pads: A milestone in the fight against railway noise Noise can affect the public acceptance of rail freight traffic potential barrier for growth in rail freight traffic Since 2007 approximately 20,000 new freight wagons have been equipped with low-noise K-brake pads but… … in Europe there are still about 300,000 wagons equipped with noise causing cast-iron brake pads; about 180,000 in Germany alone LL-brake pads were authorized in June 2013 after decades of development and regulatory work  1:1 exchange of cast-iron pads against LL-brake pads is possible! Finally, an important requirement for noise reduction of the existing fleet and its braking system is fulfilled. And possible without expensive remodeling. German Railway Industry Association ▪ Railway Days - The wider Black Sea area railway investment summit ▪ Bucharest, 8.-9. October 2013

  19. Development of the environmental performance of freight transport in Germany: Rail Road Waterway(inland) Greenhouse gas emissions per ton-kilometers in percent 4,5 x Specific CO2- emissions 2011 in g/tkm note: Total emissions including energy upstream chain (WTW) source: IFEU 2012 German Railway Industry Association ▪ Railway Days - The wider Black Sea area railway investment summit ▪ Bucharest, 8.-9. 20. Ecological and economic advantages:(compared to traditional Diesel-hydraulic power units) • No idle operation of the Diesel power unit, saving up to 40% of fuel and CO2 • Up to 60% particles and up to 40% less nitrogen oxides emissions • Reduction of noise exposure by 15 dB during electrical operation • LCC-reduction up to 30% Selected railway innovations: Hybrid-locomotive • Diesel locomotive with an electric power unit consists of: • Battery • Diesel generator • Electric engine • Mechanical gear source: Alstom German Railway Industry Association ▪ Railway Days - The wider Black Sea area railway investment summit ▪ Bucharest, 8.-9. October 2013

  21. Ecological and economic advantages: • Significant reduction in fuel consumption and therefore CO2 emissions;Potential savings between 5 and 12% depending on the operational profile • Alternatively the engine power can be raised without increase of fuel consumption Selected railway innovations: Recovery of previously unused energy to increase energy efficiency • 60% of the energy stored in fuel escapes in the form of unusedwaste heat • Integration of a heat pump into exhaust system: • Through the hydraulic-coupling a part of the heat is converted into useful torque and is returned to the driveline • Alternatively, the generator can be used to provide additional components with power (e.g. auxiliary drive or comfort drive) source: Voith Turbo German Railway Industry Association ▪ Railway Days - The wider Black Sea area railway investment summit ▪ Bucharest, 8.-9. October 2013

  22. Selected railway innovations: Anticipatory driving & energy saving by ETCS • Six priority Corridors for the deployment of ERTMS/ETCS • These are major European rail freight axis • Increase of infrastructure capacity • Making rail freight transport more competitive • Realistic scenarios illustrate that 5% to 20% of energy can be saved with anticipatory driving based on ETCS source: European Commission source: TU Berlin ERTMS logo: www.ertms.net German Railway Industry Association ▪ Railway Days - The wider Black Sea area railway investment summit ▪ Bucharest, 8.-9. 24. European railway packages – regard to rail freight traffic 4th railway package 2nd railway package 3rd railway package 1st railway package • Technical pillar:Revision of the interoperability and safety directiveERA as one stop shop • Liberalization of trans-European freight traffic • Network Access • Regulatory bodies • Complete liberalization of freight traffic • European Railway Agency (ERA) • European locomotive drivers license • Cross Authorization of rail equipment Additional competition rules Additional interoperability rules German Railway Industry Association ▪ Railway Days - The wider Black Sea area railway investment summit ▪ Bucharest, 8.-9. October 2013

  25. Innovative locomotive concepts in freight train traffic made in Germany TRAXX  (Bombardier) DE 18 (Vossloh) Vectron AC high power (Siemens) Gravita (Voith Turbo Locomotive) German Railway Industry Association ▪ Railway Days - The wider Black Sea area railway investment summit ▪ Bucharest, 8.-9. 26. The German railway industry: The worldwide leading innovator • The German railway industry is the worldwide market and technology leader. • Every boy knows that a Porsche accelerates within 17 seconds from 0 to 200 km/h. • What he does not know is: A modern high-performance locomotive with a power of 7,000 kW can do the same!
