  2. Introducing theINFOhio Discovery Portal • INFOhio is purchasing a product that INFOhio calls the Discovery Portal. • In SY10/11 the product will be funded through regular library automation fees NOACSC INFOhio Users' Meeting

  3. INFOhio Discovery Portal • This product replacesSchoolRooms as our user interface for one-stop searching • The new product contains: • Content that had been collected for use within SchoolRooms – educator-selected, age-appropriate websites which are now searchable! • Federated search of select INFOhio electronic resources. • Best of Web educationally-selected web sites. • Area Media Centers Digital Video Collection NOACSC INFOhio Users' Meeting

  4. INFOhio Discovery Portal (cont.) • This product replacesSchoolRooms as our user interface for one-stop searching (cont.) • The product does not contain (in SY10/11): • School catalogs • District content • INFOhio and the vendor will be evaluating the current capability as well as assessing the ability to include local catalogs and content during this school year. NOACSC INFOhio Users' Meeting

  5. Access to INFOhio’s Discovery Portal • Access will be through the OPAC for SY10/11. • CAT navigation bar • Links to Discovery Portal Middle School or High School rooms • CAT Jr. banner • links to Discovery Portal Elementary room • If you want to make changes to your entry page, let your ITC Provider know. NOACSC INFOhio Users' Meeting

  6. How will it work? • If a search has not been conducted in your OPAC, you land on the entry page of the Discovery Portal • If you are in a results page within the OPAC, the search term is transferred to the Discovery Portal and the user is presented with search results • This method is not 100% guaranteed • Remember OPAC searching methodology is sometimes very “librarian-ish” and not “google-like” NOACSC INFOhio Users' Meeting

  7. Discovery Portal authentication • CAT/CAT Jr is WWW available. When a user is transferred to the Discovery Portal: • If the school IP is registered, user is seamlessly transferred • If the school IP is not registered (or home use) • User is prompted for username/password • Statewide username/password is valid • Username/password does not stick and could be required each time the student enters the Portal. E.g. local district resources NOACSC INFOhio Users' Meeting

  8. On-going planning for SY11/12 • SY10/11 will be spent evaluating a number of issues: • Is this product really useful and desirable to INFOhio students and staff? (10/18-11/2) LM-44, FN-24, TF-12, AV-11, CV-10 • How might INFOhio wish to perpetuate the rooms content into the future? • How ably will the vendor address the issues to integrate school catalogs in the next 6 months? • How might a network as large as INFOhio encourage, collect, and maintain local content? NOACSC INFOhio Users' Meeting

  9. INFOhio Discovery Portal We hope you will be an active part of this year’s evaluation and encourage use and feedback from your users! Questions???? NOACSC INFOhio Users' Meeting
