Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Research Development Services Federal Research Priorities and Budgets for FY11 Various speakers Monday-Wednesday, Nov 8-10, 10 am – 4 pm Student Center West Room 206 AB Do you wish you knew where federal agencies are headed and how to align your funding requests to their priorities and direction?  Join us for this webinar and hear directly from program personnel at the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, Office of Naval Research, Army Medical and Materiel Command, and the Departments of Agriculture, Education and Energy as they share agency direction and funding priorities for the coming year.  This webinar is free and open to all faculty, staff, postdocs, and students.  You are welcome to come and go between presenters.  If you have any questions or need further information, please contact UIC's Research Development Services (RDS) at rds@uic.edu or 6-4665. Chicago CTSAs (UIC, U of C, and NU) Chicago Drug Discovery Consortium Thursday, Nov 11, 3 – 5 pm Room 204, College of Pharmacy, 833 South Wood Street This meeting brings together investigators from academia and industry interested in all aspects of drug discovery and high-throughput screening. Chi-Hao Luan from Northwestern University, Sam Bettis from the University of Chicago, and Lijun Rong from UIC will be making short presentations; Abbott Labs and Perkin-Elmer are also scheduled to make a short presentation.  We hope to meet at least twice a year to listen and learn from problems and advances in drug discovery.  For more information, contact UIC organizer: Bernie Santarsiero, Technology Development, CCTS (bds@uic.edu). Stages of Circuit Design • Each stage was tested and optimized on resistor decade/box, and bench-top models • Breadboard – through hole - SMD • Sensor need to be fabricated and connected to electronics • Assistance from undergraduates? • Total power of circuit on breadboard • ~ 200 mW • With version 1 of SMD, power = 74 mW LPPD

  7. SMT Design, Fabrication and Characterization • Version 1 is for an acute system • note: no microcontroller or wireless included • Version 2 • Version 2 (needed for R21) needs research on battery, and casing) • Undergrads? Where does this fit with my semester goals? LPPD
