  2. 1. Signal processing for communications Topic: • Data mining for communication networks • Anomaly detection in finding performance problems (interference, coverage holes, …) • Detection of sophisticated (day-zero) attacks Resources: • Project: Real-Time Management of Industrial Processes and Communication Networks (MIPCOM), 2008-2012 • Partners: TEKES, VTT, TTY, NSN, Ericsson, TeliaSonera, Metso + others • Seniors: FiDiPro Amir Averbuch, Dr. Gil David, Dr. Valery Zheludev • Students: • M.Sc Tuomo Sipola: Spectral signature extraction from high-dimensional data • Juho Knuuttila: Anomaly detection case studies • Fedor Chernogorov: Sleeping cell detection in LTE Normal performance =performance problems

  3. 2. Signal processing for psychofysiology Topic: • Brain activitity analysis for reading disabled and attention deficit children • Challenge: detection of an event-related brain activity given a short EEG recording Resources: • MIPCOM-project, MIT dept. and COMAS • Pending: ”MUSCLES - Machine Learning for Future Music and Learning Technologies”, FiDiPro-candidate Prof. Asoke K. Nandi, University of Liverpool • Students: • FengYu Cong, Temporal, spectral and spatial features in MMN extraction • Igor Kalyakin, MMN Extraction • Andriy Ivannikov, Extraction of ERP Brain activity map Brain activity in time-frequency plane

  4. 3. Self-organizing cellular networks Topics: • Automated performance management for LTE • Self-healing (fault detection, cause diagnosis and compensation) • Improvements for RACH in LTE (self-tuning of power-related parameters) Resources: • COMAS and project ”SON Test System and Algorithms”, Nokia-Siemens Networks, 2009 - • Students: • Mohammad Asghar Zeeshan • Riaz Mondal • Zheng Chang

  5. 4. Wireless system research Topics: • In general: performance analysis of cellular systems from radio resource management point of view. • Systems: TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, HSPA, LTE, LTE-Advanced • System simulations • Current issues: VoIP mobility in LTE, dual-carrier HSUPA, … Resources: • Project: PS-domain System Analysis, Nokia, since 2000. • Students: • Ilmari Repo • Frans Laakso Example: scheduling strategy vs. performance in LTE

  6. 5. Sensor Data Fusion and Analysis • Part of the Co-operative Traffic ICT SHOK programme (2009 - ) • General goal: • Develop solutions for collecting and integrating sensor data that can be used in the intelligent and innovative co-operative traffic applications. • JYU role & tasks: • Map matching: route recognition and prediction given positioning measurements and open source maps • Classification and anomaly detection for applications like road roughness determination, pothole detection, etc. • Resources: • Oleksiy Mazhelis • FengYu Cong (June 2010 - )
