  5. Basic Info about the class • Protocol for class • Hi or Good Morning/Afternoon • Long class • Small, respectful classroom environment • ASK and ANSWER questions! (do not email me or the TA during the class) • Class opinions are very varied • Try to refrain from doing other stuff in class (texting, web browsing, etc) • I try to know students, but hard • Keep disruptions to a minimum • turn off cell phones, alarms, etc. • Don’t hold conversations • Come to class on time • Only water allowed in PSU Classrooms

Syllabus • Book • Aronson, Wilson, Akert, 8th edition • Hardcopy (binded or loose leaf), digital, and rental • Copy on course reserves • Mypsychlab.com: - not required! • Email • Email TA with basic questions, email Dr G if more involved questions or issues • Courteous • Don’t take shortness of my replies personally • Please put Psych 221 in subject line !

Syllabus • Grades • 20 pts in class exercises: 5 out of 8, 4 pts each) • 400 pts Exams: Best 4 out of 5 exams 100 points each • Curve is on syllabus • Gradebook is in Angel • Rely on Angel for points received. Do NOT rely on Angel to compute your grade or letter grade for Angel can and does miscalculate grades.

  8. Syllabus cont • Missed class • 2 week time limit • Can NOT make up in-class assignments • Extenuating circumstances • flu – stay in bed • Do NOT email Dr. G just to say if you are missing a regular class. • Do email her if you are missing an exam or an appointment

  9. Class Notes • Notes will be posted after class • Why not before class? • Dr. G always changes them at last minute • Note taking is skill you need for the workplace • Impossible to ask questions and get first response if notes in front of you • Learn via multiple channels
