  1. California Intermountain By: Mason (masonian), Jon(Pancakes), Katy, Rachel

  2. The tribes • The tribes were Shoshone (Show-Shone) Paiute (Pay-Oot) Miwok (Me-Walk) Pomo (Po-Moe)

  3. What they ate • The tribes ate rabbits, ants, berries, grasshoppers, caterpillars, antelope, squirrels, duck, geese, swans, and other small animals

  4. The tribes and their land • Their land stretched from the pacific coast of California inland over the Sierra Nevada. This region contained a wide variety of environments. For example, the Great Basin was a desert. Because of the extreme heat and cold and little rainfall, it held few plants and animals. Unlike the Great Basin, California had many different landscapes and a mild climate that provided plentiful resources.

  5. Artifacts/natural resources • Some artifacts the California-Intermountain people made were the cone shaped redwood house, grass basket with shells, beads, and feathers, and the clam shell necklace. Some natural resources they used were huge redwood trees, oak trees, grasses, berries, and clamshells.

  6. More facts • The Native Americans crossed from eastern Asia by using a land bridge to get to North and South America. This was 12,000 years ago. They settled in California about 10,000 years ago. • Before non- Indians arrived, the California culture area was home to about 100 tribes. Most of these tribes had fairly small populations. They were usually made up of only a few hundred people. • They used bows and arrows to kill not just food but also battling enemy tribes.

  7. The Climate and adaptation • The climate was extremely harsh during the winter with great snowstorms and was dry and sunny during the summers. Food was hard to find in all the seasons but less in the summer.

  8. This is the end of our slide! • Thank you for watching the life of Californian intermountain Indians
