  3. What have we done to improve the life chances of Salford citizens and to promote the independence of individuals and communities in Salford in 2006/2007?

  4. Helped 28 more people into work • Commissioned (with Housing) Handy Persons Service • 242 people using Direct Payments • With the PCT supported over 1200 people to quit smoking • Developed reminiscence service in over 20 residential homes – over 300 attendances • Enabled 1,112 people to access Drug Treatment • Delivered 25,500 pieces of equipment to enable independent living • Used sport to help drug users to ‘kick their habit’

  5. Enabled 290 people with mental health problems to access leisure facilities city wide and a further 80 to attend community based activities • Helped 1436 people to regain independence through the Homecare Re-ablement Service • Increased visitors to museums and Ordsall Hall to 118,000 • Welcomed 3,000 migrants workers to the City to date • Supported Healthy Hearts programme – 560 attendances • With Housing arranged 637 major and minor adaptations to people’s homes

  6. Had 1700 contacts with Refugees and Asylum Seekers at Salford Museum • Contributed to a 4.4% reduction in overall crime since 2004 • Established that 95% of library users are happy with their library • Supported a top national level of people supported at home • Brought £300,000 into the city for Arts in Communities • Enabled 4 older people with Learning Difficulties to get their own front door (and supported 40 people with learning difficulties to live independently)

  10. How have we supported you to deliver such success? Training and Staff Development Strategy delivered: • 112 people achieving NVQ Level 2 • 34 people achieving NVQ 2 or 3 in Administration • 50 people achieving NVQ3 Care • 22 people achieving NVQ4 • 6 people achieving NVQ Level 5

How have we supported you to deliver such success? • 14 managers going through Transform Programme • 12 social workers achieved PQ • 5 social workers achieved ASW • 30 colleagues undertaking ECDL • Over 1000 staff attended other training activities AND • Regular supervision • Annual appraisals

The Next Steps • Easier one stop access for people with physical and sensory disabilities • Better and more accessible leisure facilities for all Salford citizens • Greater devolved budgets/decision making for local communities • More home-based assessment for older people with dementia • Wider choice of housing options for adults with extra needs • Improving access and facilities at Ordsall Hall

The Next Steps • Better access to libraries and information services through new Lift centres and new mobile library • Better access and choice for people with disabilities looking for work • Reduced waiting times for Major Adaptations • New Centre of Excellence for older people with dementia • Greater information available through website, Ask Sid • Easier access to health and social care through integrated teams • Greater availability of intermediate care

  18. Context • Tight budget and the need to delivery efficiencies. • Harder inspection standards for Culture, Leisure and Adult Social Care • Excellent record of performance improvement
