  2. Mission Overview • We will calculate the speed of sound as our satellite rises to an altitude of 30km • We hypothesise that the speed of sound will change in relation to the changes in temperature and pressure • This data could be useful for scientists calculating the density of the atmosphere of another planet

  3. Design Overview Bottom box • Critical systems • Camera • Micro controllers • Heater • Sensors • Microphone • Temperature • g-force • Humidity • Pressure Top box • Speakers • Heater

  4. Dry Ice Test

  5. Dry Ice test- Temperature

  6. Dry Ice test- Pressure and Humidity

  7. Dry Ice test- Experiment Consistent data, but worse with time

  8. Calibration/Wind Test • Microphone • Filtering • Passive - threshold • Active - stray data • Precision of the clock • Percent error due to clock

  9. Wind test

  10. Drop Test • Heights • Drop angles

  11. Kick/Whip Test • minimal damage

  12. Expected Results • We expect to record accurate data from all sensors • Hope to see predicted trends in this data • From this flight, we hope to see how a change in altitude changes the speed of sound

  13. Biggest Worries • The microphone won't pick up the sound from the speakers • The carbon fiber tubes snap. • The camera lense fogs up.

  14. Requirement Compliance
