  2. Preparation s for Christmas! Before Christmas we prepare a Christmas Tree and we decorate the tree with balls and ribbons. To remember the birth of Jesus we make a crib, where there are some statues. Children write a letter for Father Christmas, they ask him to bring them their favourite presents.

  3. Christmas Eve and Chritmas Day On 24th December, Christmas Eve, Italian families have the Christmas dinner in the evening. For dessert we eat “Torrone”, “Panettone” and “Pandoro”. The morning after children find some presents under the Christmas tree. After Christmas lunch some families play to bingo!

  4. 31st December... New Year! This is the last day of the year. People usually stay with friends and have dinner together. At midnight they uncork a bottle of champagne and there are fireworks in all the cities !

  5. 6th January... Epiphany! The Epiphany is on 6th of January. The night before the “BEFANA”, an old witch, brings presents to the good children and coal to the bad ones. Children prepare their socks in the evening and the funny old witch leaves the presents.

  8. Christmas holidays In Italy Christmas holidays begin on Dec. 24 and end Jan. 6: the Epiphany. In this period there is also New Year’s Eve

  9. Christmas tree The Christmas tree is a popular tradition in all the Christian families. It is a fur or a pine tree that is decorated with colored balls, lights and ribbons. The tree is decked on 8th December and removed 6th January. On Christmas Eve, “BabboNatale” brings gifts to the children

  10. The crib • The crib is a Christian tradition which is represented in the birth of Jesus and may also represent a living. The characters are Jesus, Joseph, Mary, shepherds, angels, and in addition Three Kings on the Epiphany.

  11. “BABBO NATALE” BabboNatale is a tradition that spread throughout the world.. for children is the main symbol of Christmas, he gets into houses through the chimney and brings gifts to good children, it is represented with mustache and long white beard, the belly, the red dress with leather boots and is always accompanied by deer sled

  12. Christmas Dinner • Christmas Eve is celebrated in the family. Organizing a big dinner where people cook typical foods of Christmas. • People end the evening playing bingo, a game used in Christmas and New Year period

  13. Christmas decorations • At Christmas each family decorates its own balcony with many colored lights and the front door with garlands. • They are the dried flower wreaths and berries, which, woven together, form a circle hanging from the door.
