DNS – Past and Present • DNS registration started in 1995 • E-service launched in January 2007 • New website launched July 15, 2009 • Integration of a payment gateway • Website more user friendly • Enhanced security – SSL Certificate • 5000+ domains registered until now (700+ domains in 2009) • Strict registration policies • Website at https://www.dns.jo/login.aspx National Information Technology Center

  3. DNS – Future Plans • Restructuring pricing schema • Marketing .name.jo 2LDs with service providers • Marketing .sch.jo 2LDs with the Ministry of Education • Working in parallel with the Ministry of Industry and Trade for domain marketing National Information Technology Center

IPv6 – Past and Present • Allocated a range for NITC from RIPE NCC – Feb 2009 • National steering committee established March 2009 • Deployment Plan published August 2009 • Questionnaire to stakeholders published August 2009 • Test-bed started in September 2009 • Assigning some servers v6 IPs (web, mail, DNS) • Dual-stack solution used National Information Technology Center

IPv6 – Future • Involving other related entities (service providers, universities) • Conducting international test-beds • Providing awareness sessions to stakeholders • Encouraging university students to work on IPv6 related projects/thesis • Deploying IPv6 at a governmental level National Information Technology Center

ENUM – Past and Present • Finished registration with RIPE NCC and ITU in May 2009 • Registration servers up-and-running • Sun Solaris 9 • BIND 9.3 • Conducted a few brainstorming awareness sessions to understand this new technology • Test-beds conducted internally (Successful) • Website http://www.enum.jo/ National Information Technology Center

  7. ENUM - Future • Working with regulatory for policies and number allocation • Working with Telecom Operators to prepare their networks for ENUM • Pricing schema • International testing • Setting up an online registration system National Information Technology Center

  8. IDN - Accomplished • Filed in an application on Dec 7, 2009 under (.الاردن) • Submitted all required papers • Held a community feedback showcase regarding proposed Script Table – Not all characters were submitted (variants) National Information Technology Center

IDN – Current Work • Setting a pricing schema for ccIDNs under (.الاردن) • Updating our registration system to allow ccIDN registrations • Encouraging educational institutes to develop software that could support IDNs and close the gap currently existing • Providing showcases to the public and private sectors (marketing) National Information Technology Center
