  3. The Great Wall • Was built by the Qin to keep invaders out of China. • Was 30 feet high, with 40-foot towers • Ran through the mountains, desert, and farmland • Smoke signals were used to indicate an invasion: smoke during the day, fire at night traveling from tower to tower

  4. Standardization • Definition: Making all things alike • Writing became the same across the land • Money became the same across the land • Measurement became the same across the land

  5. Other Notes • The word “China” comes from the word “Qin” • The first emperor died -> his son come to power and was a weak ruler-> the people of China began a Civil War
