  1. The Mathematics Wizard of Ancient Greece By Jake Shattuck Notes By J J O’Connor and E F Robertson

  2. Archimedes My PowerPoint Project is on the famous mathematics discoverer Archimedes. He was the Known for his amazing knowledge of math and mechanics. Archimedes was the one who made the engine in the attack of the Romans for defense against them. He was born on 287 B.C and died on 212 A.D.

  3. Achievements • Archimedes traveled to Egypt And invented a machine called “Archimedes Screw” which is a pump still used in many parts of the world • When Archimedes was young he studied mathematics with the successors of Euclid and Alexandria • Archimedes used his mathematics to build engines for wars • After the war King Hieron persuaded Archimedes to build more • By the second millennium A.D Archimedes was in fame, but even though, he still thought pure mathematics was the only worthy pursuit

  4. Achievements • Archimedes was the one who discovered the pure results to geometry • Archimedes was also the one to find the perfect method to integration which allowed him to find area, volume, and surface area • Archimedes was able to apply the method of exhaustion which is the early form of integration to obtain whole range of perfect • Results • Archimedes also gave an accurate approximation to pie(3.14) and showed that he could approximate square roots accurately

  5. Achievements • In mechanics, Archimedes discovered a fundamental theorems concerning the centre of gravity of plane figures and solids • Archimedes made an invention called “Sandreckoner”, this machine gave information about Archimedes dead father • Archimedes machine had a number system expressing numbers up to 8 x 10 to the power of 63 using modern notation • Archimedes figured out how to measure a sphere • He died on 212 B.C on an attack by the Romans

  6. Archimedes Book Most of the information found by JJO Connor and EF Robertson were in Archimedes book called Plutarch. It was said that without that book we would know nothing about Archimedes. There were actually more information on him but it was lost. In the book there is one thing on his dad and it said that he was an astronomer and that information also came from Archimedes machine the Sandreckoner.
