Why are we here? • The Leander Public Arts Commission is preparing a master plan for public art in our community. • A survey was conducted to inquire about the types of art the community would like to experience. • Open House Meetings are scheduled to discuss draft goals and objectives. • Draft plan will be available for public comment by July 2014. • LPAC hopes to complete the master plan by November 2014 and then seek City Council approval.

  5. About the Survey • Community-wide survey conducted in March and April • Publicized in the print media and City website • Could be completed on-line. Hard copies available at City Hall, Library, Parks & Rec. and Chamber Office • 130 respondents

  6. What types of art would you like to see in public spaces? • 79% - Concerts (Rock, Pop, Country, Jazz, Popular) • 69% Visual Art (Sculpture, Paintings, Murals, Mosaics) • 58% Symphony, Opera, Classical, Chamber Music • 52% Dance and Theater

Rate the Benefits of Art Projects, Programs or Features • 65% Wine & Food Festivals • 62% Civic Infrastructure (Park benches, lamp posts, signs, etc.); Interactive Play Space • 61% Art Festivals; Education & Interactive Art Programs • 59% Architecture Incorporated into Public Buildings • 53% Private Loaned Art Collections Displays

  8. What are the Best Places for the Placement of Public Art? • 74% Parks • 65% Old Town Area • 49% Municipal Facilities • 48% Gateways to the City; Capital Metro Station

  9. Draft Goals • Three goals were drafted to reflect the findings of the survey. • 1. To bring performing and visual art to public places • 2. To bring art projects, programs and features to Leander • 3. To increase communication and art awareness in Leander

Goal 1: To bring performing & visual art to public places • Objectives • To support musical events & concerts • Continue funding for Leander Car Show concerts • Seek new opportunities and partnerships for new music events • To bring permanent and temporary visual art to parks, Old Town and municipal buildings (Sculpture, paintings, murals, mosaics, etc.)

Goal 2: To bring art projects, programs & features to Leander • Objectives • Support the creation of art, food and wine festivals • Support the incorporation of art into the design of city infrastructure (park benches, light posts, signage, bridges, buildings, etc.) • Encourage interactive playscapes in public and private parks • Support and promote art education

  12. Goal 3: To increase communication & awareness of art in Leander Objectives • Promote local art and artists • Encourage young artists in public and private schools • Secure resources to bring art into the community
