  1. Summary of Proposed Text for Radio Measurement Requests and Reports Daryl Kaiser (Cisco Systems) 13 March 2003 Daryl Kaiser, Cisco Systems

  2. Proposed text specifies changes to 2003 draft • Duplicates portions of TGh and TGe where needed • Management frames with Action subtype • Measurement Request and Report information elements • Introduces new Action category: Radio Measurement • Defines five radio measurements, allows more to be added • Beacon, Frame and Hidden Node are completely new • Channel Load is identical to CCA in Spectrum Management • Noise Histogram is a non-802.11-only version of RPI Histogram Daryl Kaiser, Cisco Systems

  3. Defines a different type of measurement: non-synchronized • Spectrum Management (TGh) uses time-synchronized measurements • Requests stations to start measuring at a specific time • Requires AP to suspend downlink traffic to off-channel stations • Radio Measurement (TGk) defines non-synchronized measurements • Facilitates broadcast measurements without traffic storms • Stations randomize the first requested element’s start time • Does not require AP to suspend downlink traffic • Stations may notify power-save when measuring off-channel Daryl Kaiser, Cisco Systems

  4. What changed from 03/207r1 to 03/207r2 draft text? • Text stating STA decides time separation between measured elements • Added Channel Band (2.4GHz/5GHz) to all requests and reports • Renamed CCA Report  Channel Load Report • Renamed RPI Histogram Report  Noise Histogram Report • Renumbered Measurement Types to avoid TGh assigned values • Changed RSP tolerances from 3 dB back to 5 dB • STA is not required to declare PS if it expects no incoming frames • Text and figure for rejected measurement shows optional response • Added Channel Number and Band to Hidden Node request for consistency Daryl Kaiser, Cisco Systems

  5. What was discussed, but not changed in 03/207r2? • Allow measuring STA to subdivide each requested duration (postpone) • Adding Number of Frames field to Beacon Report (is it necessary?) • Consolidating CCA and RPI Histogram reports (controversial) Daryl Kaiser, Cisco Systems

  6. What do we realize is still missing? • Interlayer primitives for RSP (absolute dBm measurement) • How to relate SME MIB objects to MLME measurement primitives Daryl Kaiser, Cisco Systems
