Whole School Issues – From Total Responses • Whole School Key Points – from comments made on forms & data – POSITIVE • The OVERALL picture is STILL VERY POSITIVE & continuing to improve (3 yr trend) • – 97.9% of returns ‘strongly agreed / agreed’ with all areas of the school (2011 – 92.8% / 2012 – 91.2%) – this is excluding Q 8 & 9 which sway the results, due to the wording of the question • 97.9% of returns ‘strongly agreed’ (64.1%) / ‘agreed’ (33.8%) with all areas of the school • Far more positive comments noted on forms this year

Whole School Issues – From Total Responses – Part 1 • The following questions all record 100% agreement (Strongly agree / Agree) • The school keeps me well informed about my child’s schooling & activities • I feel comfortable about approaching the school with concerns and problems • I am able to speak to a member of staff if I need to • I am able to speak to a senior member of staff if I need to • The school is led and managed well • The homework system is clear and my child receives a manageable amount of homework • My child enjoys school

Whole School Issues – From Total Responses – Part 2 • The following questions all record 100% agreement (Strongly agree / Agree) • I get information about the progress of my child in school • There are opportunities for parents to be involved with the school if they want to be • There is a range of healthy food for school dinner so that my child is well nourished • There are high expectations for my child to work hard and do their best • I’m happy about the high quality of education / teaching my child receives • I feel able to download school communication online via the web-site • In addition to these questions, more responses only showed a small number of other responses

Whole School Issues – From Total Responses • The following questions would have been 100%, although a few parents needed more information about this area - i.e.(‘Don’t know’ - response) • The school responds well to any concerns or ideas I raise– (1 x ‘Don’t Know’) • My child is given the opportunity to take part in a wide range of interesting enjoyable activities - (1 x ‘Don’t Know’) • The school discipline is consistent (3 x ‘Don’t Know’) • I feel the extended school provision(Breakfast Club / Lower Covey After-School Club) is adequate for my personal needs - (2 x ‘Don’t Know’)

Whole School Issues – From Total Responses – Part 1 • Whole School Key Points – from comments made on forms & data – MAIN ISSUES to be addressed • Homework systems & arrangements – However this area has improved over the last 2 years. Now 100% strongly agree / agree that the ‘homework system is clear & manageable - (June 2012 -92.8% / June 2011-76% / June 2010 - 71.4%) – HUGE IMPROVEMENT + trend over 4 yrs • Some individual comments about homework within classes (3 mentions) • LESSresponses ‘didn’t know’ about the ‘consistency of school discipline’, although still the largest ‘Don’t Know’ area • 3 x responses ‘didn’t know’ (1) or ‘disagreed’ (2) that their child ‘could find help with problems if needed (including bullying) - improvement since last time (5 – June 2012) • 1 X Cleanliness of toilets – improvement since last time (3 – June 2012) • 1 x After School Club (child care) in school • 1 x Move Playgroup into school • 2 x Extra room dedicated for SEND pupils & group work • 1 x Covered area for wet play • 1 x Photos of teachers & staff on board • 1 x keep rubbish out of sight (Garden Area) • 1 x More climbing frames

Whole School Issues – From Total Responses – Part 2 • Whole School Key Points – from comments made on forms & data – MAIN ISSUES to be addressed • 1 x over concern for SEND pupils (school over emphasizing concerns to parents) + clarity of IEP & HT ‘too much communication / worrying parent’ - all from same form • 1 x Toilets for parents to use • 1 x More school trips • 2 x More sports / PE on a regular basis (1 x ‘every day’) • 1 x More communication via ‘home link books’ • 1 x French taught ‘all the way through’ • 1 x Dedicated Yr R class • 2 x Unhealthy school meals (chips etc.) • 1 x More monitoring at play times • 1 x More science equipment • 1 x Bigger classrooms • 1 x More lighting in some classrooms • 2 x Larger hall • 1 x More challenging reading books

Comments – Positive Feedback – Part 1 • 4 x School grounds are very good + ample school field • Gardening area / playgrounds / outdoor classroom • 2 x Social events involving parents & children – varied & enjoyable…the free courses • ‘Friendly community school’ • 6 x Approachable staff, dedicated, caring & helpful + attention to pupils • Happy children • Sense of wanting to ‘belong’ (by adults & children alike) • Good transition to secondary school • 3 x Teachers make learning fun & listen to parents concerns / ideas in general (+ very good teaching methods) • 5 x A good variety of before / after school clubs / sports / music / gardening • ‘My child loves this school’ • 2 x The quality of teaching & the relationships between adults & children • All round care they provide from 8am with after school care provided or • 4 x The quality of the school meals are excellent & varied • Range of activities, topics

Comments – Positive Feedback – Part 2 • Extremely friendly, ‘family feel’ to school, parents made very welcome • I like that he older children look out for & mentor younger children • 5 x Secure & safe • 2 x I like the fact that senior staff stand on the school gate & challenges new faces / saying ‘goodbye’ & checking who the child is with • My child is happy & really enjoys school • 2 x Reward system to encourage children • Friendly, welcoming, happy school • Good consistent discipline to school • Family & community side of school encouraged • Hardworking & caring teaching staff • MrsDycer – Listens, low key, appropriate, lovely manner & doesn’t ‘judge’ + Breakfast Club (x 2) • 2 x Show & Tell Assembly for parents • Church services • Ease of access to teaching staff & senior staff • Academic work & standards

Comments – Positive Feedback – Part 3 • Emphasis on manners / team work / life skills • Excellent senior staff • Daughter very fond of her teacher – Mrs Norris • 2 x Artwork outside & general look of school well maintained, including ‘displays’ • Thornford is a ‘well run school’ with friendly & approachable staff • High expectations set for our children as well as strong ethical standards • Children encouraged to support each other + look out for younger children • Encouraged to do their best • 2 x Small & friendly • 2 x Calm, supportive environment, atmosphere (very special) • 2 x Wake & shake had really made a difference to my child / my child ‘loves it!’ • Enthusiastic team running & working within school • Links with the village (shop, church, walks)

  17. Comments – Positive Feedback – Part 4 • Communication is varied to suit all parents & IT abilities. We always feel very well informed • After school activities are an added bonus to an already ‘superb school’ • A deep feeling that the school know my child well & how to encourage + bring out the best in her (thank you Mrs Norris) • Good learning • Good breaktimes + playing with friends…lots of space to play • Lots going on for a small school • Lots of attention on specific areas for my child to improve – tailored homework • Good hands-on leadership – very approachable & visible senior staff • My child is really happy since staring at Thornford…he is really blossoming, thank you! • Every effort is made to move forward at Thornford school, from education to the way the school grounds are presented + the school gives my child ‘motivating day’ • All children are accommodated at different levels of learning
