  2. Today’s Goals • Understand how the grants are different. • Learn how to apply, • and what to write when applying, • so you can get ENF money.

  3. Community Investments Program

  4. Grant Basics Basic requirements for all Community Investments Program grants:

  5. Charitable Activities Grants must be used locally for one of these broad charitable purposes. • Relieve the poor, distressed or underprivileged. • Advanceeducation or science, but not through scholarships. • Lessen the burdens of government. • Lessenneighborhood tensions. • Eliminate prejudice and discrimination. • Combat juvenile delinquency.

  6. Online Applications • Applications available July 1 through CLMS and grant webpages (www.elks.org/enf/grants). • Complete and submit online.

  7. ENF Grant Coordinators • Appoint a Grant Coordinator. • Can access online grant applications through the ENF website (not CLMS). • Computer savvy. • Can have more than one. • Should be involved with the grant.

  8. Gratitude Grants—The Basics • $2,000 grants available to all Lodges that reach the GER’s member goal for giving to the ENF. • Application becomes available to your Lodge when it reaches the goal, starting July 1. • Visit our Reports and Standings page, www.elks.org/ENF/reports.cfm, to check your Lodge’s current per capita. • Must apply by May 31 of the following year. • Must be used by July 31.

  9. Gratitude Grants—Additional Requirements • None. • Can be used for straight donations, but…

  10. Gratitude Grants—Consider This

  11. Gratitude Grants—The Application • Step1: Contact information. • Step 2: Grant Description.

  12. Gratitude Grants—The Application • Step 3: Answer the Questions. • Describe in detail your Lodge’s charitable community project. • Who are you helping? • And how?

  13. Gratitude Grants—The Application • Step 3: Answer the Questions. • How does your Lodge plan to promote the use of this grant in the community? • We want to know that you’re thinking about promotion. • Raising your profile is important.

  14. Gratitude Grants—The Application • Step 3: Answer the Questions. • What local concern or need is your Lodge addressing with this project? • State the community problem and what you’re going to do about it.

  15. Gratitude Grants—The Application • Step 3: Answer the Questions. • How did the Lodge decide on this grant? • Share your process for deciding on the grant. • Ideally, you’re involving the membership in the decision.

  16. Gratitude Grants—The Application • Step 4: Provide a Budget. • Itemize your expected expenses. It’s that simple!

  17. Beacon Grants—The Basics • $2,000 grants available to every Lodge, regardless of ENF giving. • Application available July 1. • Must apply by March 31. • Must be used by July 31 of the following year.

  18. Beacon Grants—The Requirements • Must be a new project for the Lodge, meaning something the Lodge wasn’t already doing without our grants. • Must be ongoing, not a one-time event. • Must be Elks-led, with much Elks involvement. • Must be an activity, meaning that it requires Elks involvement.

  19. Beacon Grants—Consider This

  20. Beacon Grants—The Application • Step1: Contact information. • Step 2: Event Description. • Step 3: Answer the Questions. • First two are identical to the Gratitude Grant application!

  21. Beacon Grants—The Application • Step 3: Answer the Questions. • Describe the ongoing nature of the project. How frequently will this activity be held? How will the Lodge be known for this project? • What does “ongoing” mean to your project? Weekly, monthly, annually? Explain. • The activity, not the outcome, must be ongoing and repeatable. We want the community to know it can depend on the Elks to address this need.

  22. Beacon Grants—The Application • Step 3: Answer the Questions. • Elks participation is required. How will Elks be involved in this project? • Most important part. Is there an opportunity for entire Lodge to be involved? • Must give members (and prospective members) something meaningful to do. • Explain how your members are necessary for the event.

  23. Beacon Grants—The Application • Step 4: Provide a Budget. • Itemize your expected expenses. It’s that simple!

  24. Promise Grants—The Basics • $2,000 grants available to the first 500 Lodges that pledge to hold an eligible event that builds the character and competence of local youth, regardless of ENF giving. • Application available July 1. • Must apply by March 31. • Must be used by July 31 of the following year.

  25. Promise Grants—The Requirements • Must be used for an Elks-led youth event that meets one or more of these needs: • Provides youth with safe places. • Promotes healthy living. • Offers support from caring adults. • Emphasizes the importance of education. • Encourages community service. • Must be an activity, meaning that it requires Elks involvement.

  26. Promise Grants—Consider This

  27. Promise Grants—The Application • Step1: Contact information. • Step 2: Event Description. • Step 3: Answer the Questions. • First two are identical to the Gratitude Grant and Beacon Grant applications!

  28. Promise Grants—The Application • Step 3: Answer the Questions. 3. What local concern or need is your Lodge addressing with this youth project? • Same as third Gratitude Grant question. • State the community problem and what you’re going to do about it.

  29. Promise Grants—The Application • Step 3: Answer the Questions. • Elks participation in this event is required. How are members of your Lodge planning to participate? • Similar to fourth Beacon Grant question. • Most important part. Is there an opportunity for entire Lodge to be involved? • Must give members (and prospective members) something meaningful to do. • Explain how your members are necessary for the event.

  30. Promise Grants—The Application • Step 4: Provide a Budget. • Itemize your expected expenses. It’s that simple!
