Kentucky’s Definition of School Readiness Ready to Grow, Ready to Learn, Ready to Succeed In Kentucky school readiness means that each child enters school ready to engage in and benefit from early learning experiences that best promote the child’s success. 2010 Governor’s Task Force on Early Childhood and Development

  5. School Readiness terms Kentucky will use screen information to help determine a child’s readiness by using the following terms. • Ready with Supports • Ready • Ready with Enrichments **The only eligibility requirement for entry into Kindergarten is that a child is 5 years old by October 1.

  6. Why did KY Choose these terms? • Feedback from Early Childhood Stakeholders. • Accurate information of what a child needs to be successful. • Corresponds to other programs’ terminology, specifically Kentucky System of Intervention (KSI).

  7. Transition to Kindergarten

  8. Prior Settings • State regulation 704 KAR 5:070 states that schools will collect prior setting data for each child entering kindergarten. • Prior settings are the setting in which a child received early care support before entering kindergarten.

  9. 5 Prior Settings • State – funded preschool • Head Start • Child Care • Home • Other **Parents/Guardians may check all settings that apply.

  10. State-funded Preschool • Children who attend the state-funded preschool program, which, as defined in 704 KAR 3:410, provides preschool services to at-risk 4 year-olds and 3- and 4- year olds with identified special needs.

  11. Head Start • Children who attend Head Start, which provides early childhood services to 3-and4-year old children who are at risk.

  12. Child Care • Children who attend any child care or private preschool setting that is licensed by the Division of Regulated Child Care (DRCC). This includes Type 1, Type 2, and Family Certified Homes.

  13. Home • A child who is at home with a parent/guardian before entering school.

  14. Other • A child receiving care from one of the following: • A family member, such as grandparent, aunt, uncle, sibling • A private sitter, who is not certified, such as a neighbor, nanny or other • Other early childhood setting that does not meet any other category

  15. Data Entry • Infinite Campus – tab available July 2013 • Name of Facility • Type of Facility • Prior Settings will be gathered for where the child received early childhood services within the past 12 months prior to entering kindergarten

  16. How do you get this information? • Gather this information through a parent interview process. • During kindergarten enrollment • If child is not accompanied by a parent, then information can be gathered: • Home visit • Letter with form sent home to parent • Conference call with parent

  17. Infinite Campus • It is critical that each child is entered into only one of the following in Infinite Campus: • Self Contained Emotional/Behavioral Disability (EBD) • Self Contained Functional/Mental Disability(FMD) • Self Contained Primary • Elementary Homeroom • Homebound

  18. Infinite Campus • Teacher Information • Each kindergarten teacher identified as kindergarten teacher in IC • Email into IC no later than June 15

  19. BRIGANCE Online Management System • Pilot District usernames and passwords will be the same as last year. • For new staff and non-pilot districts: • Usernames and passwords for the On-line Management System will be sent the week before the first week of July. • If teachers/administrators are hired after June 15, district administration will receive training on creating staff log-ins.
