  4. Everyday Mathematics Everyday Mathematics is our math program. It emphasizes problem solving and number sense through practical applications. The program is based on the TEKS and Therefore, the program touches upon skills many times in many different ways. Unique, News2u,reading eggs plus education city are other integrated Math/Science programs that I will be using daily. Please read the family letter sent home prior to the beginning of each chapter. Please save this for reference throughout the chapter.

Lunch and Recess Recess • Students should be dressed appropriately for the weather • During the winter, make sure students have labeled winter coats, gloves, hats, and scarves • A child may miss recess due to homework and/or class work not being completed Lunch • Please pack nutritious foods • Students should know their lunch numbers • Students should keep their money in a wallet or change purse • Please put names on lunch boxes *If your child has received free/reduced lunch in the past, or if you are interested in free/reduced lunch for the current school year, please ask the office for a form. New forms need to be submitted each year.

  7. Discipline If your child continuously breaks school rules, a “pink slip” will be sent home to notify you of the inappropriate behavior.

  8. *LIBRARY* Please return the library books each week. SPECIALS *Physical Education* Please wear sneakers and pants or shorts Always since we go to the gym daily.

  9. Homework • Child’s Responsibility • Parent’s Responsibility PLEASE check homework each night and sign the homework book after you have looked to see that the homework is completed. Your child should read every night, even if it is not written in the homework book. Math home links will be checked every day. Spelling packets will be collected and checked on Fridays by Mr. Howard

  10. Absences • Our program is out for a hundred percent attendance this academic year. • Whenever your child is absent from school, an excuse note is required when he/she returns. • Families should send in a note explaining their child’s absence in order for it to be counted as “excused.” ASAP Vacations will not be excused. • If you are emailing an excuse note to your child’s teacher, please include the attendance clerk in your email.   11. Community based instruction (CBI) The Department of Special Education is generous enough to pay admittance for CBI and the cost of transportation. Extra money may be occasionally needed to cover some other cost. We will have several field trips this year. You will receive further information well in advance of the trip from our vocational Teacher Ms. Watson Trips in the making: Home Depot Arlington field air show Pumpkin Patch CBI

  12. As you leave, take a moment to see your child’s classroom. Please sign the sign-in sheet in your child’s classroom before leaving. Also, choose a time for parent-teacher conferences with the teacher of record of your child. THANK YOU FOR COMING!
