VIIRS Cloud MASK (VCM) • Evaluation of VCM on Ocean Color products • comparison with “Standard Ocean color, Cloud Mask.” ( NASA, NAVY, NOAA) • - Program review in Jan 2013 • - For Color products VCM performed “Very well “. • Noted improvement to present (Threshold method) . Separates the Glint mask VCM VCM 3 3 - Confidently Cloudy VCM 2,3 2- Probably Cloudy or 3- Confidently Cloudy VCM 1,2, 3 0 – Confidently Clear 1- Probably clear 2- Probably Cloudy 3- Confidently Cloudy Caspian Sea 7-24- 2012 Present Cloud mask Albedo 865 0.027 Glint

VIIRS Coast Validation using AERONETS with SAVANT (tool) - Trend of the “GAIN” - Vicarious adjustment of the VIIRS using nL2 gen - Different regions show “slight” different trends .. - Waiting the MX 6.6 EDR to obtain more retrievals to run statistics on IDPS EDR - Validation within 1% based on the Spectral Gains !! - 442 490 555 668 By monoringthe vLt/Lt over time VIIRS seems to be performing well. Some anomalies are expected as these coastal sites. Venice - AAOT nLw 668 – Low Gain ~ +2.5% Julian Day EUREKA 668 – high WAVECIS ~ +.01% +~.001%

  6. VOCCO Mx6.6 MX 6.6 Check out ! US East Coast GS • MX6.6 improvement to retrievals ! • Processing ocean color and not negative • Issues with differences in values (Coastal areas are high in VIIRS ) • WILL ENABLE MORE VIIRS MATCHUPS! APS (n2gen) Inland lakes ! Coastal retrievals!
