  2. Introduction Burgula, Gram panchayat is located in Mahabubnagar District of Andhra Pradesh, India. There are three villages and seven tribal sites in the Grampanchayat (1) Burgula (2) Kasireddyguda (3) Nerellacheruvu (4) Kadiyalakuntathanda (5) Thimmajipallythanda (6) Pothurajugaddathanda (7) Muchonigudathanda (8) Devunigunduthanda (9) Kundelukuntathanda (10) Nallamettalathanda

  3. Population: The population of BurgulaGramapanchayat is 5000 approximately • Occupation: Most of the people work for daily wages. One small-scale cotton industry employs 20 people. • About 250 people work outside Burgula village because of lack of opportunities within the village.

  4. EDUCATION There is one high school, one upper primary school and seven primary schools. Totally 850 students study in Telugu and English Medium. Some children from tribal areas and other villages travel a distance of about 2–5 kilometers one way to school.

  5. Classroom construction Shri Agrawal visited Burgula Primary School in 2008. He saw an incomplete classroom building. Sumana madam, his school teacher from high school explained that construction had stopped due to lack of funds. Immediately Agrawal family responded and donated money for classroom construction. Now it is used for 4th class teaching.

  6. Desks In high school most of the students sat on the floor. Mrs Agrawal provided 50 desks and chairs. Now they are very comfortable and very happy to have desks and chairs.

  7. Mini Auditorium Burgula ZPHS school has a big ground and school building without an auditorium or meeting hall for extracurricular activities. Students could not watch educational CD’s and programs through television. To celebrate ShriGyanChand & SmtSarojAgrawal’s Golden Jubilee wedding anniversary the family constructed a mini auditorium, This project was completed by Mr Praveen Agarwal and MrsNupur Jain

TYAGI COMPUTER LAB • Remodeling of computer room and repairing of computers. • Six computers donated by MrsBhargavi • Two kindle devices donated • Three new desk top computers given to youth • Printer, scanner donated by MrMaruri • A wall projector placed in the lab • Lab inaugurated by Mandal Education Officer

  15. The Tribal girls walk a distance of 2-5 kms. to reach school and drop out of school for this reason. So, Pragathi Welfare Society distributed 20 bicycles to 6th to 8th class tribal girls. Attendance has improved significantly since then. BICYCLES DISTRIBUTION

  16. EMPLOYMENT: Employment for Ms.Sunitha & Ms.Priyanka after their computer training and two desktop computers for their personal and community development

  17. STITCHING CENTRE Sewing machines donated by Mr Praveen Agarwal. Stitching centre opened by Ms Sudharanigaru, MPDO FarooqnagarMandal.

  18. TYAGI LIBRARY ZillaParishad High School and Kasireddyguda To encourage regular books and newspapers reading habit for children and youth

  19. OTHER ACTIVITES OF PRAGATHI Ceiling fans in Class Rooms: to create a comfortable environment for students. Eye camp for the villagers Trophies for Children in School: For academic and extra curricular activities. Dental Hygiene encouraged: Toothpaste, Tooth brushes and awareness about dental care to children Funded exhibition: by school children. Driving License: For 13 youth for self employment.

FUTURE PROJECTS OF PRAGATHI • Women Empowerment • Improve education in other Tribal schools also • Provide purified drinking water • Water cooler for ZPH School, Burgula • One room for Kasireddyguda Primary School. • Village cleaning program • Toilets assistance project in village • Youth employment • More bicycles to school kids • Recognition of school teachers • Recognition of students • Strengthen primary healthcare centre • Cleanliness program

  22. Sumana Madam, the current Sarpanch (village head) belongs to Burgula. After her retirement she shifted to her ancestral village to improve conditions there. Her former student Dr Alok Agrawal took note of it and joined in her efforts along with his entire family. The entire family made repeated trips and Pragathi, an NGO to the village. A strong team of dedicated board members was formed. Mr Shankar Dyaga , a young lawyer from the village with intentions of rural development joined as village development officer. So the entire team consists of dedicated people supporting each other in pursuit of making Burgula a model village. OUR STRENGTH
