  2. What is Civics? • How we become good citizens and become responsible and informed decision makers.

  3. What Can a Citizen Do? • Pay Taxes • Serve on a Jury • Say the Pledge of Allegiance • Vote in Elections • Sign Petitions • Serve in the Military • Stay Informed About Current Events • Hold an Office (Mayor, President, Senator, etc.)

  4. What Do Good Student Citizens Do? • Follow the rules • Pay attention to their teacher • Complete their work • Help friends • Pick up trash to help keep the room clean • Be kind to all living things • Be honest

  5. What Do We Learn About? • The Bill of Rights • What you as a citizen can do. Changing Laws -- What you can do to change laws if they are unfair. Democracy -- Everyone gets a say, voting, freedom to choose.

  7. Your Job • Good citizens make fair decisions. When you grow up you may be asked to be on a jury. • A jury makes a decision about who they think did the right or wrong thing. • Listen to the book, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. • As a class we will be the jury and vote who we think did the right thing and who we think was guilty.
