  1. RT07 Summary Margaret Votava FNAL

  2. Agenda • Stats • Feedback • Student awards • CANPS membership • RT09 Margaret Votava FNAL

  3. Registration/attendance • Vendor 9: More were interested • ATCA workshop: 89 • Plenary 186 (130 early, 56 late) • US/Canada: ~75 • Asia – 12 (Japan 9, China 3, Korea 1) • Europe ~100 • Type • Students: 30 • IEEE members: 31 • Many people joined IEEE - 120 Margaret Votava FNAL

  4. Submissions • 161 abstracts + 12 withdrawals • Few visa • Few logistics • Few no shows • 63 posters/98 orals • Dominated by Trigger/DAQ and Controls and Monitoring, more than ½. Margaret Votava FNAL

  5. Proceedings • 135 submitted papers in “good enough” format • 3 of which are iffy • Last one submitted June 11, 5 weeks after deadline . • Making of CD in progress. • Formatting done through Tuesday’s talks. • Stalled a bit because editor busy with PAC work. • Hope to ship next week. • ATCA workshop CDs already shipped. Margaret Votava FNAL

  6. Budget Remaining Issues: • FNAL final invoice outstanding • Proceedings CDROM production and mailing in process • IEEE publications revenue TBD Current Status Books will close immediately upon satisfying these outstanding expenses Margaret Votava FNAL

  7. My issues • Budget – FNAL (DOE?) backed out as treasurer midstream. This was a difficult transition because budget made with one set of rules and implemented with another. In the end, it’s better if it’s NOT DOE. • Transportation – many people wanted local transportation. FNAL conference office experience is that this is actually rarely used. • SPMS – teething pains for RT. Don’t know if I would use again, but was great to have local help. • Vendors – could have had more. Limited by power/space. • Conference could benefit some consistency from year to year in certain functions – proceedings editor, treasurer, webmaster. • NPSS Should REALLY, REALLY have proceedings and TNS transactions formats the same and have word and latex templates for both. • How to “encourage” people to adhere to submission deadlines? Margaret Votava FNAL

  8. More issues • Banquet – well attended. Most non-attendees were local FNAL/ANL • Too many orals – move some more to posters. This is a hard choice since you don’t always know the “good” speakers. The number of speakers made for a long day and late afternoon talks were not always well attended. • Plenary sessions right outside FNAL cafeteria worked very well. as most of the day you could see small groups involved in great discussions. People could drift in and out of plenary talks easily and had table space/refreshments to chat. • Power – people wanted power in the auditorium so they could run their laptops all day. I have mixed feelings about this. It’s good that they run out of power and actually listen to the talks instead of reading email. Margaret Votava FNAL

  9. Student Awards • ~33 students. • About ½ did not submit their papers in time to be considered (the first day of the conference). • Winners were • Joel Riendeau for a paper entitled "High Rate Photon Counting CT Using Parallel Digital PET Electronics" • Alexandar Mann for a paper entitled "AdvancedTCA based Sampling ADC Data Acquisition System" • Jose Maria Monzo Ferrer for a paper entitled "Improved digital pulse height estimation for PET detectors using LMS adaptive filters“. Certificate only. Margaret Votava FNAL

  10. Gratitude to (in random order) • Cindy Arnold, duplicating • Diana Cazone, poster, logo, and program design • Jerry Guglielmo, manning the AV • Tony Lavietes, treasurer • Kathryn Duerr/Dora Merelli – proceedings editor • Cynthia Sazama/Suzanne Weber – all else for conference • Vince Pavlicek/Mike Haney – ATCA workshop organizations • Cantigny – gratis services and tours. Special accommodations • Mari Herrera, Lisa Giachetti, Marcia Teckenbrock – all web work. • Richard Jacobbson – passing the torch • Patrick LeDu/Jean Pierre Martin – invaluable guidance • SAC – tireless promotion and good ideas. • Bakul Banerjee – Vendor contact • Session Chairs • Jinyuan Wu – local FNAL tours Margaret Votava FNAL
