  3. What are we assessing for? • Recording • Access to the Curriculum • Communication

  4. Aims • To provide a broad understanding of how ICT can help assessment • To look at the key components eg method and approach • To understand the range of solutions related to the needs of recording, access to the curriculum and communication

  5. Objectives • To know what tools to use in an assessment • To understand some of the issues surrounding the need for assessment • To plan a realistic approach • To skill the SENCO in identifying need to SARF for ICT help • To engage in activities that raise the main issues

  6. ICT SEN Assessment Process • SARF - consider any evidence of the pupil's work - use your professional judgement • Discussion with the SENCO/Classteacher(if possible)/TA • Assessment • Report • Follow-up

  7. Handwriting • Standard tests apply • Timed tests • Copy a sentence – 1 min • Free-writing - 5 -10 mins

Spelling 1.spoon- omission of double O 2.learnt - silentletters which phonetic spellers often produce as "lurnt" 3.because - to see if they have acquired the "Big Elephants Can Always Use Small Exits" or similar 4.mighty - silent letters which phonetic spellers often produce as " mity" 5.chase - silent e 6.has- understanding of grammatical rules of "as" and "has" 7.there - understanding of grammatical rules of "their" and there" 8.fact - over complictation often occurs " fatck" 9.protractor - use this long word to see what strategies they use to break the word down into bite size bits 10.which - understand the homophones between "which" and "witch"

Questions to consider • Can the ICT solution be incorporated on a school laptop/computer better than an individual kit? • Is there a way the school can organise small groups to use technology so that the pupil isn't being highlighted as different? • Is the technological solution cool enough!! The wow factor - egiPads at the time of writing.?
