  1. What is Dental Crown and how it works for you ? When it comes to damaged teeth, there are several options available in smile restoration. One very effective and popular option is dental crowns, also known as caps as they are fitted over (or “cap”) a tooth. At Sweetwater Dental Studio, we offer the advantage of CEREC technology, enabling our Sugar Land dentist to create our dental crowns on site. This means that there is no waiting period for a dental crown to be created and the procedure can be completed in one visit. Benefits of Dental Crowns Crowns can be used to treat a variety of dental problems, often in place of a filling when there is too much damage, to protect a weak tooth from fracturing, or to restore a fractured or broken tooth. They are also used to hold a dental bridge in place, to cover a dental implant, cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment, or to make a cosmetic modification. Crowns offer the same functionality as natural teeth and can be colored to match the rest of the teeth. CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns Sugar Land After making sure that the tooth to receive a crown has healthy roots and sufficient bone to support it, the tooth and surrounding gum tissue will be anesthetized by our crowns dentist in Sugar Land. Any decay present will be removed from the tooth before it is cleaned and reshaped to receive the crown. The dentist will then make an impression of the tooth, and use it to create the custom-fit crown. Previously, there would have been a waiting period of one or two weeks for a dental laboratory to create the crown and send it back to the dentist office for use. However, using CEREC technology, our Sugar Land cosmetic dentist at Sweetwater Dental Studio is able to create dental crowns on-site, ready for use immediately. Once prepared, the dentist will place the crown on the tooth to check the fit, making adjustments to it as needed. When the fit is satisfactory, the crown is cemented into place.
